Thank you for all of the heat felt condolences for the loss of Mittens the Kitten

She was a feral, but had really found a spot in my heart. I've been watching and feeding her for so long, she really did feel more like a companion than a feral. I never made progress beyond giving her scritches while she ate, but that always made me feel so lucky. I can't imagine what it will be like to go out with the feral's food and not see her sweet face while she races back and forth in front of me, sometimes stopping RIGHT in front of me to meow. She was just pure joy.

I did manage to get some yard work done and then I came back inside, sat down, and fell fast asleep for well over an hour. When I woke up, all three of my boys were snuggled up around me. Gryff behind my head, on the back of the chair, Arthur and Madoc next to me. They do ease the pain of loss.

I'll call this Gryff's 'Bigfoot' photo

These guys, including Gryff, are just too sweet

I had a pet snake, and a cat perched on his cage would have terrified him. So no kitties indoors. But I loved two of the ferals who came to me for food. So I understand.

If he’s late coming up to the deck for supper I worry. He’s a very cautious kitty though hard to see. But I know he can’t live forever. He lets me pet him and scratch on the head sometimes I know what you mean I feel lucky. It is amazing we can become so into attached to these semi wild animals. I don’t think of them as feral just indigenous Hang in there with your other sweethearts

all those years ago hurt as much as losing an indoor kitty that slept with me. His trust and allowing me to barely touch his head for years and years and would allow me to keep him inside in a side room when the weather was bad made him just as important to me as any of the others.

I am so very sorry. They leave such huge holes in our hearts but I am absolutely certain you, like most of us, would rather suffer this pain than live without any of them.

Be easy on yourself for a while. Much love.

I took in a pregnant feral and was supposed to return her but fell in love with her and her babies. She wouldn’t stay in the house after the babies were weaned but I made her come inside to eat. Then one day she didn’t show up. Im still broken up and I still look for her when I go somewhere. I don’t know if my evil *&$$# neighbor had something to do with her disappearance or if another animal got her. Las time I saw here she was rolling around on the rug while I scratched her. 😢😢😢😢

I help take care of a feral colony and have seen a few go over the rainbow bridge these past 8 years. It is always so heartbreaking. Nature can be harsh, but all we can do is do what we can. Then, when it's our turn to cross that bridge, we will be surrounded by all those that we loved. And it will be heavenly.

When they go, they take that piece with them.

Through the years, I have told myself that the joy animals give me justifies the pain when they leave. Remember that joy and smile.

Kitties are a true blessing. Including the feral ones. Maybe they need extra love when they're feral.

what else is there in the world but love?
