was Arthur's way of assuring himself that he really was home again and that nothing significant had happened while he was gone.
Only then could he feel at peace enough to take a nap.

Did they look for him when he was gone and carefully check him out upon his return?
n my experience, there's usually some enthusiastic "inspection" (translation: sniffing) when a fur sibling comes back from a stay at the vet's office.
