Gryff is very 'put out' by Arthur's lap sitting dominance

This morning I woke up to Madoc and Arthur in their usual places on the bed. Normally, Gryff sleeps solo but jumps up on the bed as soon as he hears I am awake. Not this morning. After a few minutes I became concerned and started looking around the house. No sign of Gryff. Then panic starts to edge in. I looked AGAIN. No Gryff.

Then I heard a noise. He was stretched out on the floor, ignoring me. He does blend in to shadows. Had I turned on a different light I would have seen him. I breathed a sigh of relief. Admittedly, after all of the deaths in my immediate circle, both human and feline, my mind immediately jumps to the worst case scenario. I gave him many pets, scritches and kisses.

My theory was confirmed shortly after. I sat down on the recliner and Arthur IMMEDIATELY jumped up on my lap. Gryff just stared. I called him and he jumped up for a second, gave Arthur the stink eye, and jumped back down.

Guess I'm going to have to start giving him extra attention from now on.

CJ was never much of a snuggler. He’s a semi-feral I rescued when he was 6 months old. When he was around 7 I got Twitch. Twitch lives for a human to sit down. He’s the ultimate lap cat. Now I get the stink eye from CJ. Too funny as he rarely wants to sit on my lap.

And he's a little bit vocal, this morning. Maybe he's figured out that meowing will make him stand out from the other two, although Arthur sometimes meows. It's just a very soft meow. Madoc usually saves his voice for feeding time.

Extra attention. Cats need their loving. If they don’t get it, it is likely to play out in other less desirable ways.

Gryff is such an affectionate guy. My best friend is coming for a visit, in a couple of weeks, and she is QUEEN of the cat moms. She has a special place in her heart for black cats so Gryff will be getting double attention. She's never met any of the boys so this is going to be fun.

I understand Arthur's attachment to me, since I've been 'Mom' since he was 3 weeks old. I'm sure that, as he gets older, things will even out. But he definitely seems determined to be Top Cat in the house.
