My biggest and, honestly, anticipated fear may be playing out. Carys has disappeared

Note to any new readers of my posts, I brought Carys in as a 5 month old feral kitten. She never really settled in to life as an indoor fur baby; Although there were moments when she could be so sweet and loveable but those were few and far between. I couldn't pick her up and could only pet her when she decided I could and if I pushed the line, her reactions could be dangerously fierce. It's been like having a grey ghost living in the house.

I saw her yesterday morning. She ate but I think she might have been the one who threw up. She came in to the den, spent a few minutes out in the open but then did her usual dash to beneath the chair. I slid her flea pill mixed in a Churu beneath the chair and she licked the plate clean.

Merlin and I fell asleep, some time after 1pm. When we woke up I checked and no Carys beneath the chair. Well, the guest room is open so maybe she was there. When she didn't show up for dinner or treats I started searching. Not a sign. Not in the closet, under the bed, behind the chest - not a sign. Earlier yesterday I was looking behind and under the furniture in the den and living room. This morning I did a deep search in the guest room and hallway bathroom but have yet to find where she is. I even opened closets that have been closed.

Today I'll be pulling all of the furniture, in the den, to the center of the room and picking up ANYTHING that's on the floor.

I'm both anxious to find her, but dreading it at the same time.

Honestly, it's like she disappeared. I'm emotionally prepared for finding she's crossed the Rainbow Bridge but really want to take care of her, now, even if she didn't let me do that very often, before.

I worried that having so many guests for that long would traumatize her. My family loves to laugh and they can get LOUD.

The last room to deep search is the den, which we refer to as 'the cave'. It is a very poorly lit room with just one small east facing window. Once there is enough ambient light I'll turn on all of the lamps and start tipping up and dragging furniture away from the walls.

When Gryff had a bad reaction to topical flea medication he hid away on top of the cabinets in the laundry room. I'll grab the step ladder and check there, too. She's GOT to be here SOMEWHERE.

And, of course, everybody is gone, this weekend so I'm on my own in this search.

Silliness of cats and has found a new exquisite hide hole. Took me weeks to find Bootsy's new hiding place and id have sworn I'd looked everywhere. But I understand your anxiety, and hope she makes herself known quickly for your sake and hers.

She is probably just hiding somewhere. When my cat was “missing”, he had climbed up into the back of the sofa. Is this possible? Maybe she’s exploring somewhere in the basement if you have one. I’m sure she’ll show up for breakfast.

Ripped a small hole in the bottom underneath of the upholstery in our sofa and crawled inside. She was deep inside it.
Be sure to look and see if she was able to do that. 🙏🏻

Even though I live in the suburbs we now have coyotes. Of course the coyotes consider small animals prey and kill them. I hope your fur baby is safe when outside.

Good vibes, hoping she's just in a deep hiding spot. I also hope you can relax a bit, things and beings are often found when you let your anxiety drop.

when Callie was about 8 weeks old, and started to develop symptoms of toxoplasmosis, she found her way into my bedspring. We had to take the mattress off, and flip the bedspring over, so we could retrieve her.

you love and care, and worry. I could not find one of my babies one time, shook her food bag, checked everywhere. Then I opened the kitchen cabinet to get a pan out. .she was sleeping in one of the pans. The doors had no latches, so somehow she managed to nuudge the door open, have no idea why.

Can she get behind the refrigerator?

Also going to check the backs of the sofas and chairs, just to make sure she hasn't found a way to hide beneath the fabric.

Maybe take the vacuum from room to room, running it.

back, where we once found two kittens !!! We'd been frantic for hours !!! Also, the lining under a mattress may have a hole allowing a cat to get into the mattress. Another cat was hiding from a steam cleaner in a space that the builders had created under the wet bar... we had no idea it was there!!! I found someone else's cat hiding in the mechanics under a recliner chair. Top of kitchen cabinets if the cabinets don't go up to the ceiling? Good luck!!!

Tops of cabinets, soffits, refrigerator, curtain valances and rods, etc.

We "lost" our ornjboi shortly after we moved in to our current home and I was frantic that he might have found some unsuspected way outdoors - a vent or something. Spent the morning searching every nook and cranny.

Called the spouse, barely coherent. When the spouse got home from work and walked in the back door there was a "Meow!" and he looked up, and pointed.

The ornjboi had been on a soffit above the refrigerator, the whole time I'd been searching.

So.... look up.

Holding you and the kits in my heart. Breathe, and stay strong.

hopefully,
Bright

I'm going to check, again, though. I'm hoping that if she IS hiding, running the vacuum will cause her to bolt from her hiding place.
