Related: About this forumI'm going to go make my first legal purchase today
Got my card in the mail last night so I should be good to go There are at least five or six dispensaries within a few blocks of me so I figure I'll go check them out this morning and see who has what to offer. There are still some things I'm a bit fuzzy about... There is this whole 'care giver' thing... Seems you can either be your own care giver and grow your own (which, I have a black thumb and kill everything so no way) or assign someone else (like a dispensary) and you "may" get a discount. I say "may" because I hear conflicting things... Some people have told me oh yeah, nice discounts... and others, no way, they are not allowed to do that... So I don't freakin know but I'm sure each place will tell me what they do so I can decide. It should be interesting... While waiting for them to open (a few more hours) I'm checking out some different strains here (though... Who knows what they will have):

(7,349 posts)I know of one. You pay an entrance fee and smoke all you want while you're there. You can't take it with you, though, unless it's freely given. No commerce allowed - no trades even, if you interpret the law strictly.

(38,865 posts)Anything from discounted product to free massages. Nice! Shop around. See which dispensaries you like. I had a fave & then it changed ownership & I don't like it anymore. Looking for a new one.
Don't forget the other products, too. I love the medicated balm for my shoulder & back pain & some of the edibles are wonderful. Check it all out & report back.

(21,894 posts)I'm not sure how it gets outside of Denver but there are shops everywhere here. I have more shops within walking distance of my house then fast food places.

(21,894 posts)I went out and visited each of the local shops. Everyone was really nice and had no problem letting me know what they offer for membership. Definitely some nice discounts to be had. After I settled on a shop, I purchased a 1/4 ounce of Banana Kush. It has a really nice, kinda fruity, kinda weed smell to it and hits you like a brick. I also got a 1/4 ounce of Purple Kush. This one has a much more traditional smell to it and is also very potent. The Banana Kush is much more of a "day" use, it has a great effect without putting you to sleep. The Purple Kush, while still very potent will make you sleepy, so much better at "night" when I can't sleep.
Also, since I had a great discount on everything in my first purchase, I got a vaporizer. My doctor strongly recommended using one. I guess it is the heat from smoking rolled, pipe or water pipe that is what can damage your lungs. A lot less (almost none and I'm a smoker) coughing makes it very worth it. The doctor also warned me to only smoke a little at a time when using a vaporizer as it delivers a lot more THC into your system then using other methods.
So I sat back and did a couple of hits of the Banana and fired up the PS3... Made a nice bacon and pepperoni pizza for dinner, then played some more. Every two hours or so, I did another hit. Around 10 or so, I did some of the Purple Kush and about twenty minutes later drifted off to one of the best nights sleep I've had in years.
I'm pretty happy with the situation.

(34,825 posts)blue dream is always a good choice too. what kind of vape did you buy?

(21,894 posts)I liked the look and it seemed to be about mid range in price(with the discount, it was very reasonable). I'm thinking when I get time to do some research, I'll try to figure out which kind is really the 'best'. For now though it works just fine.
I forget if those strains were available or not... There was really a lot to choose from and they all seem to have these weird ass names that kind of blend together... I'm betting there is a weed name generator somewhere on the web that they use to pick the names I'll ask about those next time I go though and if they have them, give them a try.

(5,198 posts)--I am trying to find dispensaries in AZ and their program is too new. Their caregiver won't return my calls and I want to remain legal. I came here to save my life, I have cancer. If things do not improve I may haul my trailer to another area where I can be closer to a dispensary.
(I usually don't disclose so much but am hoping someone here has some experience.)
Peace to all you good people~ felix

(21,894 posts)I don't know anything about the laws in AZ but here in Colorado, it was a very nice process. I needed something to prove I was a resident (DL, utility bill, like that) and not much more. I went to one of the plentiful doctors in town (They advertise in the local paper) and the visit was short, easy and cheap. I then sent in the check ($35 IIRC), paper work certified/return receipt and was allowed to purchase at any of the many local dispensaries.
At most of the places I've been to now, I've found the staff to be really good at getting you the right stuff depending on your needs. Currently I am taking most of mine through a vaporizer, I get 1oz bags of what is refereed to as 'joint mix' (among other things)... What it is, is that at then end of the day (or when re-filling a jar), they empty the 'shake' at the bottom of the jar into a single container. They then sell it in 1oz bags as well as to do their pre-rolled joints. The cost is $60 I freakin love it. I do on occasion splurge on some nice top shelf stuff at about $30-$40 per 1/8 and I also go now and again to another place that has a weekly special on wax hash at $15 a gram. I'll combine the two and smoke from a bowl... Just wonderful.

(5,198 posts)Thank you Ohio Joe for responding and sharing your experiences, I will be lurking on as many sites as possible--I have SO much to learn.
My fingers are crossed that this turns out well. I hope I can find a reliable and reasonable caregiver. It sounds like here they want us to declare ONE caregiver OR make the choice to grow. Obviously there is still a lot of negotiating that has to happen around here, because these rules make no sense. They want to ban growing within 25 miles of a dispensary (and of course there are very few dispensaries at this time....) Whew! When I came here I was hoping that the program had been in place already, and as it turns out--it is still in it's early stages.
I plan to get in touch with the state cannabis club, and NORML too
For me edibles and tinctures work best, since I am treating my digestive system, so hopefully I can find good cancer fighting strains with the right cannabinoids that shrink tumors.
Peace and a big smile~~felix

(5,198 posts)and everyone for sharing their stories here. I finally got a call from a caregiver. She has a pharmacy background and is making pills with symptom specific oils, and is able to tweak them according to what symptoms need treatment. I got pills, tincture and baked goods and it was expensive--month supply=200 (does that sound reasonable? I have no idea).
This is where I am at right now, and hope to learn more so I can learn how to make better medicine. I have made tinctures and oils but apparently you need a high temp for some cannabinoids. Also I have been reading that much of the medicine is in the leaves and stems--this is what this caregiver's lab results showed. I may decide to juice the leaves in order to get another form of the plant.
It has been an interesting journey so far. Now that I have this well made medicine my stress level is much relieved, along with pain too
