Police can keep guns seized near Spierer hangout

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Police can keep nearly 50 guns they seized from a man after he was found watching a Bloomington bar where an Indiana University student partied the night she went missing more than a year earlier, a state court ruled Tuesday.

The 2-1 ruling by the Indiana Court of Appeals upheld a local judge's ruling allowing Bloomington police to keep 48 weapons they confiscated from Robert Redington's Indianapolis home in August 2012, including more than a dozen tucked under the sheets and pillows of his bed. Redington's attorney, Guy Relford, said he would ask the Indiana Supreme Court to hear the case.

Bloomington police had found Redington on the third floor of a parking garage, where he was peering at the bar through a range finder. It was the same bar that Lauren Spierer visited on the night of her June 2011 disappearance. Redington told officers who approached him with their weapons drawn that he had a shotgun and another gun in his car.

Police confiscated two loaded semi-automatic handguns they found in Redington's pockets, as well as the shotgun and ammunition.

but the authorities had him examined to determine his mental capacity and found him to be a danger to himself or others. That's what I got out of the story. What I don't understand is how they can keep the guns without remuneration?

INDIANAPOLIS -- Police can keep nearly 50 guns they seized from a man after he was found watching a Bloomington bar where an Indiana University student partied the night she went missing more than a year earlier,
The 2-1 (repeat 2 to ONE) ruling by the Indiana Court of Appeals upheld a local judge's ruling allowing Bloomington police to keep 48 weapons they confiscated from Robert Redington's Indianapolis home in August 2012, including more than a dozen tucked under the sheets and pillows of his bed.

OK, so one of the 3 indiana judges ruled that redington should be allowed to keep his 48 guns, and, I presume, considered a dozen of them tucked under his mattress pad no big f'g deal, am I reading this right? My question is, is he an nra plant? (either one) .. and how did redington get his 8 hours nighty night? (good night my little glock, I love you).

Redington allegedly told police that he had been visiting the area and wanted to "avenge" Spierer.

Sheesh, sounds like a law abiding citizen gun owner, accd'g to nra & that one judge.
NRA would fight hard to ensure redington's gun rights remain intact, since he's not been convicted of any crime (AFAIK).
Is there a website where DU gun enthusiasts can contribute to red's defense?

{Redington} also said he had the gift of prophecy.. a psychiatrist .. testified at a local court hearing that he believed the man had schizotypal disorder, which he described as a mild to moderate personality disorder with a "flavor of schizophrenia,"

Hmmm, new word, how does one pronounce 'schizotypal'? Skitz OH tih pull? TYPE ull?
