Preschooler brings loaded gun to school in backpack

By Alexis Stevens

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A Spalding County preschool student had a loaded gun in his backpack Tuesday, the school system said.

Another student mentioned the gun to a Jordan Hill Elementary School teacher, who found the gun Tuesday afternoon, according to Judy Parker, spokeswoman for Griffin-Spalding County schools. The teacher brought the backpack and gun to the principal, who called police and the child’s parents, Parker said.

Principal Anthony Aikens used the parent notification call system to alert parents, who also will receive a written letter Wednesday, Parker said.

15. I understand that the gun was shaped like a gun, resulting in the no tolerance skinning of the child

If it quacks, etc.

The skin and the gun shaped object is being held as evidence.

when they have to go through metal detectors everyday. I never thought we would need metal detectors, pat downs and bag inspections in preschool, but thanks to so many irresponsible gun owners, it's fianlly come to this.

we could make a pretty strong case for child endangerment out of this. Of course nobody will be wanting to discuss whose gun it was that little junior took to Kindergarten. I'm betting on the backpack being used for some other purpose and then him taking it to school.

SERIOUS gun troll. Enough.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Wed Aug 28, 2013, 02:03 PM, and the Jury voted 1-5 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Sounds like a stupid attempt at humor. Let the thread deal with it.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Snarky, not terribly funny after all, but not actionable under the rules.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Dear Alerter, If you don't like smark, for which ileus is kind of famous, then I suggest getting off the internet. I think it is you who has had enough and need a time out.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Don't think this is a troll at all. I see it as "well, if the 5 year old had it straped to his/her hip, then it would have been fine. Which it is not. The whole story is epically stupid from the get go. i don't remeber seeing any other postings from this user, so I have no history to go on. But this post is fine.

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.
