Sometimes Luck is better than training.

"One of the suspects started to go upstairs. That's when my son took care of himself and our home," Patmon said.

Sheriff's officials said the teenager shot one of the men, who later was pronounced dead at the scene

"He's never used a firearm - ever," the officer said. "He maintained his poise and did extremely well under the circumstances."

Sometimes luck is better than skill I suppose.

Of course catching them in a bottleneck increases his chances of taking care of business. In this case a shotgun may have been a better lifesaving device to use.

Full choke, spread would be 2 inches or thereabouts, max, in a residential hallway.

I showed that even with a modified choke in my 28ga at 7 yards it basically punches a 3" hole.

I've never patterened any of my other shotguns at that distance. (The 28 ga is the only modified I own, all the others are full chokes)

I'm not sure what the Mossy 500 I have is, I've never shot it so I suppose it doesn't matter. LOL It's may be an improved cylinder or something like that, not sure what the HD shotguns are suppose be.

That being said I'd rather have the long gun if faced with two perps coming up the stairs. Of course I'd rather have an AR than a shotgun in that case also.

IMHO no home should be without at least one AR for self defense.
