The off-duty officer unloaded 14 shots into a car waiting at a red light. In the past decade, civil suits against the NYPD have more than doubled, hitting a record high of 9,500 in 2012, according to CBS Local. They've cost taxpayers $1 billion dollars and tend to result from such outstanding police work as making false arrests and shooting people's pets.
Now, the city might be on the hook for $90 billion thanks to a NYPD officer who got wasted and just started shooting at a parked car for no reason.
According to the AP, the two men suing the department -- Joseph Felice and Robert Borrelli -- were waiting at a red light when the off-duty officer unloaded 14 shots into their vehicle. One man was hit 6 times, but his friend was able to rush him to the hospital in time to save his life.
"I honestly don't know how we survived this unprovoked ambush, or why he chose to single out Joe and myself for his vicious rampage," Borrelli said, according to the AP.

(6,185 posts)I'm not sure what this story has to do with the TOS for this group?
It's a cut and paste dump, not relating to gun control in any way, since the OP didn't even bother to offer his POV.
Or did they just get sick of it in GD and LBN and nobody else wanted it?

(1,363 posts)I'm new...please explain what LBN is. I'm not here to annoy, just posting. In this case, there's no side to your conversation, just a tirade about my ineptness. Sorry if you don't have the same spirit of the post.
I have learned that if I do not care for a certain post, I'll try to reply without the overt snideness. Hope that you do the same. We cannot all be you, or live up to your standards. ... Thanks for understanding my position, along with anyone else who would irritate you today.

(10,136 posts)That forum has rules about how news articles are titled and linked to.
Here in the Gungeon, we prefer any news links to contain comments by the poster as to what he thought was interesting about the article as to start the conversation. Some long-time posters choose not to add any comments to their "Google news dumps" and are often chided for their lack of participation in the conversation.
Soooo, basically, this is a 'insiders' clicky group. thanks. Appreciate the heads up.

(1,401 posts)Almost anyone is invited to post (with the exception of 2 banned posters); anyone posting an article is respectfully asked to comment on the article instead of "google dumping" and leaving. The one poster who is generally chided for this is a group host in the "other" gun discussion group that has banned approximately 40 + people for attempting to disuss issues and not falling in lockstep with the pro-control sentiment of the group.

Very recently some have been posting things in that group that violate the SOP and are being locked. That makes them angry.
They seem to get away with it in GD even though gun posts also violate the SOP of that group.
This group has a history of one poster, a host in the other gun group doing the same cut and paste postings as you did violating the SOP of this group. That host strictly enforces the SOP in that group and has blocked any opposing view as it is a "safe haven" group.
39 posters blocked in that group opposed to 2 in this group and one of those has quit DU.
Statement of Purpose
Discuss gun politics, gun control laws, the Second Amendment, the use of firearms for self-defense, and the use of firearms to commit crime and violence.
with this many postings from that host without comment as per the SOP many of us believe the poster is just spamming the group.

(8,614 posts)If you truly want to have a conversation, then don't start it by insulting the other person/s. I am sure that is is not normal in your household to insult those who you are talking to. The same holds here, if you want to have a conversation.

(1,363 posts)Sorry if you took it like that. Usually, as a rule of thumb, if I don't have a dog in a fight, I tend to stay out of it.

(44,577 posts)Before going out to a bar that night, Mr. Cronin had spent two consecutive days in tactical training for officers assigned to high crime areas. It included dozens of enactments of vehicle stops with Mr. Cronin and other officers aiming their guns at a car and watching for dangerous movements...
(U)nder questioning, (Cronin said)...that the last thing he remembered was getting on the Hutchinson River Parkway in the Bronx and heading north. He said he had no memory whatsoever of the shooting, did not know the men in the other car, and could not explain how he had ended up in Pelham...
Officer Cronin, who refused to take a blood-alcohol test, was...suspended...and charged with first degree assault...a Class B felony...His family put up a $250,000 bail bond.
(link)
If he was in the midst of an alcoholic blackout, it's going to be hard to prove any kind of intent. But Cronin may have made a tactical error by not allowing his amnesia to get in the way of refusing a breath test!

(1,363 posts)Look to Australia, NO MORE DAMNED GUNS! NOPE NOPE NOPE.
Duckhunter935
(16,974 posts)you would be completly wrong in your statement.
A common misconception is that firearms are illegal in Australia and that no individual may possess them. While it's true that Australia has restrictive firearms laws, rifles and shotguns (including semi-automatic), as well as handguns are all legal within a narrow set of criteria.
As of 2007 about 5.2% of Australian adults (765,000 people)[1] own and use firearms for purposes such as hunting, controlling feral animals, collecting, security work, and target shooting.

(17,502 posts)as mentioned before, there are legal guns in Australia. The number of legal guns are back up to pre NFA levels. They also have a problem with smuggled handguns and gangs using "home made" sub-machine guns. The claim that there hasn't been a mass shooting since NFA isn't quite true. There was one in 2002. There have several mass murder by arson. Each one with a much higher body count of mass shootings other than Port Author. Gun owners have their own political party.
If you want to see a country with no guns, check out Russia.

When are you going to join the police and join in on the dangerous missions you're sending them on? You know, kicking in the doors of 30 million homes and seizing all of their handguns and "assault weapons"?
The NRA got plenty of air time with videos of workmen with circular saws chopping guns up.
