DENVER (AP) - Colorado Democrats have won back two seats they lost in last year's gun control recalls.
Republican Sen. George Rivera, a former deputy police chief, lost to state Rep. Leroy Garcia in Pueblo. In Colorado Springs, former state Rep. Michael Merrifield, a gun control advocate, beat Bernie Herpin, a founder of one of southern Colorado's biggest gun clubs.
The recalls were watched nationally as a test for lawmakers who back gun control but the lesson now isn't very clear.
Merrifield once worked for former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg's gun control group. He says his gun control views didn't hurt him but he said voters were far more interested in other issues like education and jobs. He also noted that turnout was higher than in the special recall election.

The gun control crap sure did not help our side.

(7 posts)Americans are legally buying 20 million gun per year, according to FBI NICS Reports. Since you can buy multiple gun on the same background check, the number per year could be much higher.
Gun control has been a massive failure at the national level because gun homicide deaths have been trending down for decades. Keep clapping.

You don't give a shit about the CO senate. Had those two pro-gun nuts stayed in power, the Senate result would be the same.

(18,318 posts)vote, term after gerrymandered term, for a gun-control congressman, Lloyd Doggett.
You might direct your attitude toward Bloomberg's outfits who outspent the pro-gun recall forces by a huge margin, and for nevertheless giving the GOPers an early start on the takeover; such is vindication, I guess.
I wouldn't want him on my side if he agreed with me.
