Chicago police say 2014 ended with historic lows in crime and murders.
Police said they recorded the fewest murders since 1965.
Still, the last murder of the year was recorded yesterday, when a masked gunman followed a tow truck driver into a tire shop office and fatally shot him on the South Side.
The man, identified as Reginald Jones, was taken to Jackson Park Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
the superintendent does say shootings are up overall but I wonder if there's any break out for self defense or is every shooting incident lumped into a total?
It is far too early to leap to any conclusion or one factor for the low numbers, at least for most people, but I do notice something that definitely did not happen.

"Police say as long as there are so many illegal guns on the streets, they will face an uphill battle.."
Is WGN so automatically programmed that they have to add that final remark even when it's contradicted by the actual STORY above it?

(68,644 posts)I suppose it's almost a truism, and one that all of us can embrace: illegal guns are a problem.
But should we dare suggest that LEOs need to more strictly enforce existing law then we'll be accused of parroting NRA talking points.
Because penis.

Maybe the problem is the laws.

(68,644 posts)It's not uncommon for public agencies to project problems that don't exist, or to massage the data in ways that perpetuate funding.
Hey, Happy New Year and I hope things with family are not too difficult.
