Guns (just my opinion)

Owning firearms is a right. Don't like it? Please don't bother me with your poutrage and bogus self righteous indignation. You have the right to not own a gun if you choose. Many control fanatics remind me of the cute animated character in the Myrbetriq commercials. They're cute but they've got a problem. Maybe they don't understand rights; maybe they're misinformed about freedom. Maybe they're looking at some other countries and just having a 'grass is greener moment'.

Carry on. Return to your day.

So keep all your projectiles etc away from others, their property and so forth. Kindly keep your weapons out of sight and keep them in a safe manner. Enjoy your right but not at the expense of other's rights to life.

That the Second Amendment protects the individual right to keep and bear arms, and that right "shall not be infringed." At the same time, I understand many people don't like firearms, don't want a firearm and don't want to be around them. So I'm ok with the "keep your weapons out of sight and keep them in a safe manner" statement. I'm completely fine with laws that prevent open carry and completely agree that any firearms should be handled and stored in a safe manner. Sticking a loaded firearm in a dresser drawer, at least when there are kids around, is not storing it in a safe manner.

I am even a fair shot. What I have observed about handguns is that most people do not handle them safely. This is before the Glock lack of a safety which seems to be contagious. What I observed is many people mishandle handguns. They do not realize they are pointing them at their family members and others. This is not usually a problem with long guns but it just seems ubiquitous with handguns. My other objection to them is they are not particularly accurate, at least in the hands of most people. If you can't hit your target, where does the bullet go.

I wish Texas had stayed with its long held laws that made carrying a handgun nearly illegal. You could own one but really couldn't transport one legally. If the gun was in the trunk and the ammo in the car that was considered OK but not carrying both together. With the mass shooting at Luby's cafeteria that caused law changes. Now we have an open carry law on the books.

I am free to assume that they are up to no good. That may be profiling but why does anyone feel the need to openly carry a weapon in a restaurant or retail clothing store? I can guess a few reasons; to show off an expensive, well made firearm, to brag "I got a gun!" because of fear of others. The last is the one that gives me the most concern. As to self protection- if I were of a mind to shoot a bunch of people with my hidden firearm my first target would be "open carry Bubba".We all have rights but we don't always need to exercise them.

The phrase 'roll for initiative' comes to mind. Wear that gun where it's visible and it will either deter an attack entirely, or you're giving up initiative and painting a neon target on your back.

That's why I conceal carry. But it's not for everyone. Some might open carry for the reason you specified, or it may simply be that it's horribly uncomfortable to CC. (It often is, especially inside the waistband.).

I don't openly carry even when I'm in a place where it's allowed (not legal here in Portland) for two reasons: In most places where I might do so, it's disturbing to many others, and I have no desire to upset strangers who've done nothing to me, AND it's tactically stupid; I don't want to be a lunatic or criminal's first target. Let's face it: a short, slightly-built woman isn't likely to be considered the biggest threat in a group of people.

They are very protective of their goats and any gun fire makes them hyper aware. That's why they won't eat because they are en garde. I don't know why that sets them off but it does. The greatest amount of dove hunting here is in the early evening and that's when they eat.
