Politics, not violence, increase gun permits, sales

Politics, not violence, increase gun permits, sales

Numbers show bigger increases in concealed handgun permits, firearm sales after gun legislation discussions

Despite heightened awareness of safety since the string of Northern Colorado shootings between April 22 and June 3, neither purchases of firearms nor applications for concealed handgun permits increased dramatically, officials say.

Officials say Larimer County residents tend to flock to arms stores and the Sheriff's Office for firearms and concealed handgun permits much more when gun control is politicized than when deadly violence occurs locally.

"What we've typically seen, if you have an incident like an Aurora shooting, that does show some impact of an increase and an uptick in concealed handgun permits," Smith said. "We actually hear and see a lot more in reaction to discussions about additional gun control."

4. So, according to you, all the people on DU demanding a complete ban are full of shit?

So there's no reason to be concerned (in fear of) about the gun control people trying to sneak another gun ban past us like the '94 AWB?

The Bloomberg's and Joyce Foundation types, along with the "myriad" of DU gun control supporters have no interest in banning so called Assault Weapons again, huh?

The problem is we know from experience you gun control folk just have no self control and are never going to be happy. So why even try to compromise?

Somebody proposes something like a universal background check program that has broad support and instead of just passing it, the gun control freaks in congress and the senate lard it up with registration, another AWB, magazine restrictions etc., every pet project that is even vaguely gun related, until nobody wants to vote for it. (And another million or two AR rifles are sold based on the proposal to ban them)

And of course you have a stalwart group here on DU, that one minute reminds us that "no one wants to take your guns, you paranoid gun nutz/delicate flower/ammosexual etc.". The next, they demand the confiscation of all handguns, assault weapons, pump shotguns etc.

But then, you knew that.

Maybe you'd care to explain why the officials quoted in the OP are wrong?

Put it up in the form of an OP without comment, if it would make you feel better.

6. Your post illustrates the bad position you are in regarding gun policy...

I have said in these threads for over two years now that the BIG lines cueing up to gun shows around the nation were not exclusively because of a need for guns or ammo, nor as a universal response to fear of regulation/confiscation. But the events were actual!y demonstrations, Directly in response to those advocating regulations, bans, controls, and culture war. I asked some people what they were looking for at the highway-jamming show in Travis County, and most said nothing in particular. They were there to show the middle finger to gun-controllers.

You and your buddies face a dilemma, SecMo.

I've had this discussion with several gun friends. Obama ain't taking the ammo, you're all buying it up and hording it. Just like back in the 70's or 80's when Johnny Carson made a joke that toilet paper would be the next shortage. Viola. Enough Carson viewers ran to the store and stocked up that they created the damn shortage.

Makes buying my 75 MM antitank shells danged difficult.

Why do you peddle the propaganda that gun ownership is only for white males?
