Arrested dad wants answers after daughter draws gun pic

Jessie Sansone and his family are reeling after he was arrested and strip searched by police after his four-year-old daughter drew a picture of a man with a gun in her Kitchener, Ont., kindergarten class.

The 26-year-old father of four said Saturday the sketch was supposed to be him, getting the bad guys and monsters.

The school must have thought differently, as after Nevaeh drew it Wednesday, the school contacted Family and Children's Services and they called police.

Waterloo Police met Sansone at the school when he tried to pick up his kids he was told he was charged with possession of a firearm. He was then handcuffed and put him in one of the several squad cars waiting outside, he said.

How low are the evidence standards at this police department if a 4 year old kid's drawing is enough evidence to bring up criminal charges of possessing a firearm?

There are many parts of the world and even the US, where possession of a firearm is illegal. That said, the reaction to this kindergarten drawing is absurd and Sansone should sue.

And those parts of the US and the world should begin recognizing the RKBA.

It's quite pleasant not to need to carry a firearm but it leans toward slavery to be arrested for owning one.

I wouldn't go that far. I think people should be able to own guns, as long as they own them responsibly, like not carrying them around in public.
However, if the law makes it illegal to own, then it's just another law that some don't like. Hardly a high priority issue and nothing like slavery. Slavery is alive and well in this country on both federal and state levels http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=8289

BTW, I did use your name as a voice of reason earlier today, in another thread. Hope you don't mind. I'd much rather deal with a gladiator who understands the consequences of entering the arena, than deal with the bloodthirsty sycophants in the gallery, who applaud the bloodletting at every opportunity, yet fear drawing their own swords when their sheep are threatened.

F&CS has a reputation there for not taking action in the past in cases that it should have and may have over reacted this time. I can only imagine how frightened the children must have been.

A few police cars at the school might have have been a bit much too.

and I would add that I have no problem with him legally and responsibly owning a firearm.

IMO all involved should spend a weekend, at least, locked up for false arrest and imprisonment. Might make them think twice next time. Gun fearers are just as nutty as gun lovers. Crazy doesn't pick sides.

And wise to craft it they were, indeed. This situation would never have occurred in the majority of the United States, provided that the father wasn't a felon, or otherwise prohibited from owning a firearm.

This might be the first time in my life that I can honestly say that I'm glad that I live in the U.S. instead of Canada.

Someone else drawing a picture of you with a gun somehow is evidence that you have a gun?

If I drew a picture of someone, say Dick Cheney, robbing a bank in Canada can he be arrested for bank robbery?

This is lunacy.

The intentions were not malicious. Caregivers and social workers over reacted and an over zealous police department joined the fray. The culture is very different in Canada regarding guns, especially around children. They fucked up, big time, and should face the consequences, but it is always better to err on the side of caution than do nothing, as often happens here. Think Loughner, Columbine and many others.

I have been to Canada many times. I have had many conversations with citizens about guns. It is a totally different mindset. You start discussing about how to defend yourself and some people actually dig in their anti-gun arguments. Some have common sense and will actually understand a real life scenario.
