Calif. Lawmaker Takes Aim at Gun Stockpiling

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CN) - Current and future gun owners in California could soon be limited to one firearm purchase per month under a gun-control bill introduced Tuesday.

The bill introduced by Assemblyman Miguel Santiago, D-Los Angeles, would place the same restrictions on long guns - rifles and shotguns - that are currently on handguns in order to prevent Californians from buying multiple guns at once.

Santiago says handguns and long guns "hold equal powers of destruction" and should be regulated the same to prevent Californians from stockpiling weapons.

"It is mind-boggling that a person - no matter their intentions - could purchase as many rifles or shotguns that they want at any given time," Santiago said in a statement. "This is a common-sense solution to gun violence in California."

1. Maybe this one has a better track record than Leland Yee?

Yee was big on limiting purchases and for more gun control ... well, except for the gangs buying his smuggled guns.

Anti-gun Politician Accused of Shooting at Ex-Wife Faces Plea Deal Deadline

"After several delays, a deadline has been set to offer State Sen. Virgil Smith (D-Detroit) a plea bargain.

If Smith, who is heading toward a trial for the alleged assault, including shooting at, his ex-wife last year, and the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office don’t strike a deal by the Feb. 5 pre-trial conference, then no deal will be allowed according to a release.

Circuit Court Judge Lawrence Talon made the ruling Friday when he set the date for the final pre-trial hearing.

Smith, who represents Allen Park, Lincoln Park, Southgate and part of Detroit, is accused of assaulting his ex-wife and firing an AR15 rifle at her 2015 Mercedes-Benz when she came to his Detroit home in June of last year. She allegedly found another woman there.

Smith is charged with felonious assault, destruction of personal property of $20,000 or more, felony firearm and domestic violence."

Another political hero of gun control joins the ranks of the MAIG gun control heroes.
