http://tucsoncitizen.com/arizona-news/2012/02/29/arizona-universities-estimate-costs-of-campus-guns-bill/Arizonas three state universities estimate that a bill that would allow guns on campus would cost millions of dollars in one-time and annual expenses.
The legislation would result in an additional $13.3million in one-time expenses and an additional $3.1million in annual operating costs at Arizona State University, University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University.
The university system, which expects to serve about 138,000 students in fiscal 2012, has a total budget of about $3.8billion.
The bulk of the money would go toward constructing gun-storage lockers outside buildings so guns couldnt be brought into classrooms, according to a study prepared by the universities and released Wednesday.

(54,770 posts)Everyone but a few so-called Young Republicans, will be happy for you to leave your guns at home.
Taxpayers will be glad not to spend the extra money to make a few gun carriers happy -- not to mention the extra money when someone gets drunk and shoots an innocent party, or some gungho right wing kid tries to play cowboy and stop some minor crime with his gun(s).
When I went to school, you could smoke in class. They don't allow that nowadays thank goodness, nor should they allow yahoos to carry guns on campus.

(15,374 posts)they vastly increase the chances of an accidental or negligent discharge. And you know they won't have clearing barrels and observers at each door.....
They could save a lot of money time and risk by actually allowing the guns into the building.
Let's have a show of hands: Who here thinks that someone with criminal intent will stop at the entrance and locker-up their firearms? Bueller..... Bueller..... Bueller.....?

(18,479 posts)...these are politicians. They make a living looking at a situation and finding a "problem". Then they create legislation to "solve" the "problem" and MAKE A NAME FOR THEMSELVES.

ASU Chief of Police John Pickens estimates he would need to hire at least one additional officer and one additional police aide per shift on each of the four campuses. He expects calls to police will increase, including calls for unintended discharges of weapons, stolen weapons and attempted theft of weapons.
Based on what evidence?

How many of the 138,000 are eligible and will carry a firearm?
