Astros owner Jim Crane opposes the removal of the pistol from the Colt .45s throwbacks

I've never wanted to post in this group until now.

For the most part, it's been a great offseason for uniform news. The Blue Jays have gone retro, the Braves have a cool cream alternate and Baltimore's cartoon bird is back where it belongs. We're even excited about the red that the White Sox will wear.

The one big downer, though, came in last month's news that the Houston Astros must remove the pistol from their Colt .45s throwback jerseys as they plan to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the franchise. Even though it's just for two games, Major League Baseball decided that one measly gun was too much and that the 'Stros had to surrender the piece. Thus the uniforms from the franchise's first three years won't be armed — or accurate.

It was a decision that we didn't agree with and we weren't alone. A Marine captain from Leander, Texas, named James Crabtree sent a letter to new Astros owner Jim Crane saying that the kowtowing to political correctness was the final straw in a long series of missteps and that he couldn't be an Astros fan any longer.

I was thinking of the malt liquor. I never knew of the previous name. I'm surprised Colt does not sue for copyright infringement. I do think the MLB is going overboard.
IMHO, the 1875 Remington and Smith & Wesson Schofield were better revolvers. But then, I'm usually a contrarian by nature.

Out of curiosity, why didn't you like the old name and uniform?

The 'Houston Colt 45's' just furthered the stereotype of Texans being gun nuts. 'Astos' is much better.

And if you can make a logical link between that sports jersey, it's history, and any rise or fall in crime, then you might have a point. Otherwise, you don't. And neither does MLB.

I agree what MLB wants to do is silly.

so I do hope that Crane fights this a bit harder....the league already held up approval of his purchase of the team until he agreed to allow them to move the team from the NL to the AL.

Seriously, people, it's just a logo....they don't actually shoot. Next the league's going to demand that they cut out the video sequence that's the home run celebration when an Astro hits a 4-bagger.

Another example of political correctness run amok. Good for Crane and Crabtree.

The revolver was removed after Colt Firearms filed a trademark infringment suit.
I believe that the uniform shown was used for one year only.

There is no need for a sports team to have a firearm on their jersey. It promotes and glorifies guns. Our children do need to see such things as it is offensive and sickening. Since I hate guns, it is ok for me to say that guns should be censored from pulblic display.

Also I do not like beer and our children should not be exposed to such filth. So the Brewers should no longer be a team. Get rid of them!

Promoting terrorism should also not be tolerated. Terrorism should not be glorified either. So the Pirates should also no longer be a team.

Rodeos are cruel and violent affairs and also should not be glorified. They are horrible to the animals. Therefore the Royals should no longer be a team.

I also cannot stand racism. So both the Braves and Indians have to go.

I also cannot stand anger and aggression. So the Blue Jays need to go as they are very angry and aggressive birds. Why is no one thinking of the children?

I cannot stand to have religion forced on me and my family. My children should be free in or from religion. Therefore the Angels, Padres and Cardinals have to disband.

Children have self esteem issues and should not be forced to face their own body image issues. Therefore the Athetics And Giants have to go.

I hate snakes and I don't want my children exposed to them. The Diamondbacks have to go.

Abuse and pejorative remarks should never be tolerated. I never want my child to hear one as long as they live. The Dodgers have to go.

I have a barefoot running style. It is the style more natural how the human body was designed. I want my children to never have to face a different style and they should never be exposed to the thought that it may be okay to run with a heel-striking style. So the Reds, Red Sox and White Sox have to go.

No one "needs" that many baseball teams. No one can show any good reason why we cannot play standard seasons with the remaining teams. The nice thing about it is we can have the World Series in July.
