OREGON: Governor Signs CCW Confidentiality Bill into Law

http://www.nraila.org/legislation/state-legislation/2012/04/oregon-governor-signs-chl-confidentiality-bill-into-law.aspx

Governor John Kitzhaber signed House Bill 4045 into law. This important Concealed Handgun License (CHL) confidentiality law went into effect immediately.

Sponsored by state Representative Kim Thatcher (R-25), HB 4045 was a necessary legislative fix because, under previous law, the private personal information of every person holding a CHL in Oregon was at risk of being divulged to the public.

That backlash is sooo terrible. And in another thread there are three more lashes to come.

Although I don't agree with a requirement for a government permission slip to exercise a right, I am fine with CCW records being treated like driver's license records.

Just as you can no longer walk into the MVD and request driver's license info so you can go ask for a date from the "babe" you saw in front of you at the grocery store checkout, you should also not be able to get that information from her CCW records, either.

With a valid, compelling reason, however, you can access that record in many states - for a fee, and only after leaving record of your identity when you request the record.

Fortunately, my state allows me to carry without a permission slip, and I can even put my jacket on at night if I want!
