Group hopes to reverse new Wichita open-carry law

Some Wichita city leaders and business owners have teamed up with the intention of reversing a new city ordinance that allows people to openly carry firearms without a permit.

The Wichita Eagle reported Sunday the practice became legal Thursday after the City Council passed the ordinance earlier this month.

Council members said their hands were tied by a 2007 state law that legalized concealed weapons, and that they made the move after state Attorney General Derek Schmidt said the city couldn't forbid open carry.

Before that, the city's law prohibited open display of a loaded firearm, but allowed people to carry concealed weapons if they had a permit.

and find out how big a deal it isn't.

Lawful people acting within the law aren't a problem.

How fucking difficult is it to not invent crimes for people to be guilty of?

We in Oklahoma are counting down until November 1st, when open carry becomes legal again. The American people are gradually succeeding in making their voices heard.

For people who are scared of guns (but not scared of seeing them) it should be a comfort seeing a holstered firearm. You know it's safe and secure, you know you're safe and secure in the fact you can keep an eye on the carrier.

A sidearm in plain site will cause any perp to think twice. Maybe it's a citizen maybe it's a LEO...either way it's a real threat to their plan.

OC also shows that society has made enough progress that citizens can not only own, but be trusted enough to carry to defend themselves and maybe if needed their fellow citizens.

Greater love has no man but to care enough to carry the very best...S&W

I'd feel guilty to put it in a holster.

The M&P...well it's just ugly enough to OC.

about a woman in a restaurant in Arizona who asked the restaurant manager to ask an on-duty cop in uniform to please remove his gun from his belt and put it in his squad car because she was afraid of guns. The cop called in and told the story on the air. It sounded legit to me.

among people that aren't too mechanically inclined.

I know of two people that are truly scared of firearms, one male and one female.

The male buys size 12 shoes even though he wear a 9.5 because "The feel better because they're wide enough."

The other is a female that asks neighbors to do everything for her. She's asked me to change light bulbs before.
