According to authorities, Keats let his three dogs outside, and when http://www.freep.com/article/20120821/NEWS03/308210050/Police-Troy-man-shot-longtime-neighbor-who-told-his-barking-dogs-to-shut-up? When they didn't stop barking, his neighbor yelled at the dogs to quiet down, then kicked the fence.
Keats ran toward his neighbor, yelling at him: "Don't tell my dogs to shut up," police said in the release. Keats is accused of firing four shots at his neighbor as the man ran away.
Yep, shot his neighbor in the face to protect his barking dogs honor. The best way to lose a right is to have a bunch of idiots abusing it.

(54,770 posts)Instead, we have people trying to promote more and more guns everywhere.
The perception of guns needs to be changed just like tobacco use. Fools might still "smoke," but at least they can be treated/recognized as a threat to health and society.
What would really be nice is for those attracted to guns to begin speaking out against them -- but there is no friggin chance of that because gun owners, by and large, are afraid of doing anything that might cut off their access to the next weapon that makes them drool.

(83 posts)They are neither inherently evil nor good. They are simply a tool.
When guns are used to intimidate, threaten, or harm, they are being used for a bad purpose.
When guns are used to protect, they are being used for a good purpose.
We shouldn't act like guns are evil, because a lot of good comes from them. A lot of lives are saved by them.
has zero inherent benefits. Guns, when properly used, do have benefits. Your analogy is flawed.

(15,396 posts)That being said....I have never thought of shooting my neighbors for their barking dogs. I'm glad they've never shot me for yelling at their motherbleeping barking mutts.
In other news the neighbors across the street their barking dog had grown up and doesn't bark as much here in her 5th year. And the neighbor to my left got a companion dog and stopped chaining the one that barked so much at night and of the mornings. The neighbors on the Right got rid of their two barking caged mutts. If my dogs bark either there's a stranger or a strange dog passing by.
Everyone should own cats...

Only totalitarian fear mongers talk about eliminating civil liberties when criminals abuse those liberties.

(26,602 posts)is failure to keep a vigilant eye on law enforcement and policy makers. Those might be knee-jerkedly motivated by idiots as in the OP, but as citizens our primary responsibility is to participate in and monitor our government, not to acquiesce to "sorry, but you made me do it" style infringements. Rights should never be lost or denied based on the behavior of idiots...
