A gun in your home makes you less safe, unless you have your own.

http://www.11alive.com/news/article/256261/40/Father-son-shot-in-home-burglary

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -- A father and his son were hospitalized after walking in on a burglary in progress in their home Tuesday evening.

There was an exchange of gunfire. Both Cantrells were hit; Maj. Jason Bolton with Henry County Police said one of the burglary suspects was hit as well.

Smith said one of the suspects checked himself in to Piedmont Henry Hospital with a gunshot wound he sustained during the encounter. Police have identified three additional suspects, but have not yet released any names.

Mike is right on this one....a gun in the home of these two individuals did endanger their lives. However.com lucky for the home owners one of them was carrying their own safety device, and deployed it defensively. They both still caught some lead, but at least they weren't murdered.

I wonder how they will adjust their mode and form of carry? Larger caliber? More capacity? More training?

...the homeowners could have just been stabbed to death instead and not been able to resist.

Where's your sympathy for the down-on-their-luck burglars?

to defend yourself with lethal force changes the dynamics of this type of life threatening situation.

I must add that, if there had been a viable alarm system in the home, this fire fight probably would have been avoid.

IMO Home security should be "layered" with electronics being one of those layers and active use of firearms being the last line of defense.

After seeing how the group AR15.com treated my best friend, who was a victim of assault last year, I think people need to be able to pass a mental test of some kind. Those "men" were able to look at the bloody face of someone who was just violently beaten, *resulting in broken ribs, broken collarbone, and a cheekbone fracture with facial swelling to the point that she could not properly see* and they goaded one another into a pack mentality to rip her throat out . . . they were happy she was bleeding. They laughed and belittled and cursed and called her ugly and wondered why anyone would assault her since she's so gross. You could see the glee in everything they typed.

They got together and used a 'fire mission' where they all went and reported her fundraiser as a fraud. Fortunately, she was able to provide adequate evidence to support the need for the fundraiser, but some of that evidence was humiliating to share and it set her way back on her road to recovery. If grown men and gun owners can behave that way, antagonizing a woman and laughing at her agony, then they don't need guns. People who act like children are the reckless little men who shoot a kid while "cleaning" their gun.

I support the 2nd Amendment and love to go muddin' and then to the firin' range with my pals. After seeing what they did to my friend, though? I would be scared to death with any of them near me. If they can derive that much pleasure at someone's pain, what are they capable of doing in person. How far would they go?

This is the girl they crucified, by the way. Thank God the site owners personally called her and she faxed over everything they needed. She cried the whole time she was doing it. It was like being broken again.

This is my friend just after her entire world was flipped upside down on March 23, 2011. Warning: photos of the aftermath can be triggering and jarring.

That's who they dog-piled, mocked, insulted, called out, called names, and hid behind their little keyboards tapping away to mock and accuse instead of picking up the phone and verifying the police report for themselves. It's there. It's available.

If the majority of gun owners are like those from AR15.com -- God help us all.

* I was not there to see the injuries when it occurred. I am merely repeating what I was told about the extent of her injuries. I can, however, see the scars this assault left behind on her brow, lip, and cheek.

It sure would, wouldn't it? It conveniently disappeared when youcaring found that the fundraiser is legitimate.

Another thing that is conspicuously absent is a chorus of apologies to this girl.

Since her assault, this girl has written article after article about guns in the home, concealed carry, OPSEC, situational awareness, etc...

She turned the horror of what happened to her into a teachable moment. She strongly advocates carrying and being able to defend yourself. She may not be able to leave her house without sedation and a dang good reason to step outside the door, but she's getting the word out there. Guns are not evil- that's her mantra. If she had been armed that night, she wouldn't be the reclusive, depressed, and fragile being she has become.

The two I have handy on this computer are at the following place:

This is where she gives advice, including using a firearm, to protect yourself. She also discusses other ways that people can be safer and more aware.

http://cartersville.patch.com/blog_posts/a-lesson-in-safety-for-the-women-of-cartersville-2

This is her latest one. She is having such a hard time. This attack left her with a broken collar bone, broken ribs, a dislocated shoulder. She was messed up physically, but also emotionally. And what makes it even worse is that she was the victim of rape as a child. So all of that has come back on her tenfold. She has PTSD, anxiety, depression. It's just a sad state of affairs. She isn't capable of working right now per her psychiatrist because of the meds she is on. They're working to get her short term disability until she is able to go back to work. Right now, her social anxiety is so severe that she won't go out unless she absolutely has to do so.

http://cartersville.patch.com/blog_posts/in-the-aftermath-of-my-assault-im-not-okay

Perhaps you can still find some of the online cruelty she was subjected to on facebook. There is an ar15.com facebook page on there. The other stuff that went down was at the actual site from my understanding.

And not a single person who tried to get her fundraiser banned by reporting it has apologized to her. She supplied all the proof, but not one of them can man up and admit that they were wrong to do what they did.

I go there if I want to find tricks to replace a dust cover detent pin or spring or how to tweak a mil spec trigger.

I don't know that I've ever seen that many threads there on horrible personal experiences that aren't directly related to the use of a firearm.

Maybe it's just me but it seems a really "odd" place for this story to roll out.

unless I'm trying to do research on a part or part of an AR. I'm not sure why anyone would go there to complain like was mentioned unless it was just a major troll job or made up.

My problem is if she was having an issue with her AR she should have just stuck to resolving that issue. AR15.com isn't much of a place to post incidents like this poster mentioned.

Kind of like going on a car forum, complaining that your washing machine doesn't respect you anymore then being horribly offended when people tell you to go suck an egg.
