"Zakaria lifted several passages from an article by historian Jill Lepore that was published by the New Yorker magazine in April."
To his credit, Zakaria apologized to all concerned, though it evidently wasn't his first time at the subliminal arts: "In 2009, Zakaria was accused of using, without credit, material published by Atlantic magazine columnist Jeffrey Goldberg." All this was good enough for The Post: Fareed Zakaria is a valued contributor, said The Posts editorial page editor, Fred Hiatt. Weve never had any reason to doubt the integrity of his work for us. Given his acknowledgment today, we intend to review his work with him.
Just a few weeks later, Zakaria was off suspension.

We look forward to having Fareeds thoughtful and important voice back in the magazine with his next column in the issue that comes out on Sept. 7, Time said in a statement.
CNN's take was more to the point: "CNN said that after a thorough internal review of Zakarias work for his Sunday TV shows, blogs and documentaries, 'we found nothing that merited continuing the suspension.'
______________
Very quickly, Zakaria grabbed hold of the New Yorker article, perhaps using his "multimedia star" for a one-two punch a little too quickly. Even more quickly Zakaria is back at his ephemeral desk. His suspended column was described as "on vacation." Back in the day, folks who plagiarized got more than a "vacation," so to speak.
Almost all the political water being toted by and for gun-controllers is Mainstream Media; it's not the politicians, it's not the people. Their bias for gun-control/prohibition -- esp. Time (magazine) and the Washington Post -- is legendary, even studied. So I am not surprised CNN "found nothing that merited continuing the suspension."
Hey, who's bitchin'? It's gun-control.

(18,479 posts)If guns are dangerous, then the MSM has to be pro-control. To do otherwise kills leads stories or leaves the staff looking a like an animated oxymoron.

(6,801 posts)it makes me wonder: do we really need to leave such rights in the hands of untrained civilians?
The founders never imagined high speed assault style communications devices run by computers (based on military technology). Many of those computers are black and contain extended memory and long life batteries.
Yes it would be nice if the average citizen could be trusted with these rights but obviously that is not the case. Every reporter is capable of breaking our libel/slander laws. Some just haven't been caught yet. I would say at least 50% if not more bloggers are deranged or under the influence of drugs.
That is why I propose a one strike and you're out rule. Make any mistake in the use of your speech (plagiarism, hate speech, slander, the occasional misspeak, anything) and you're done. No more rights for you.
