Phenix City man shoots robbery suspect in self defense

http://www.wtvm.com/story/17105703/elderly-man-shoots-robbery-suspect-in-self-defense

One teenager is in jail and another is recovering in the hospital from a gunshot wound after Phenix City police say the man they were trying to rob fought back.

Samuel Howard, a 62 year old contractor, was working on two homes on 14th Avenue in Phenix City Wednesday when he tells police two young black men tried to rob him. Instead of handing over the money they wanted, Howard got into a fight with the 17 year old suspect and shot him in the arm.
...
The victim in this case, Samuel Howard, was not injured during the robbery, and police say he will not be facing any charges.

But but but, we're told this could never happen.. why didn't the robbers take the man's gun away? And I'm sure they didn't really intend to hurt him, right? Their gun was probably carved out of soap or something.

the perp that got shot in the arm is being charged with the possession of a stolen handgun (not to mention armed robber) that he used in the attempted robbery.

He stole it and used it to attempt an armed robbery. Of course he was armed. Am I missing some sort of sarcasm here?

Now I see it. You left so much white space that I just scrolled right passed your sarcasm label.
