Baltimore County Giving Out Free Gun Locks To Residents After 3 Incidents At Schools

Baltimore County will now provide free gun locks at all 10 of their police precincts so owners can keep weapons out of the hands of children.

The first day of a school, a teen opens fire inside Perry Hall High School shooting another student.

One week later, inside Stemmers Run Middle School, a 13-year-old pulls out a handgun in the middle of class and points it at other students before a teacher wrestles it away.

“None of these incidents were caused by owners who were just being careless. Frankly, they were caused by owners who were being idiotic,” Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz said.

Seems like this would be a good use for a small portion of the money raised through state transfer fees. Even if it doesn't result in much, it sounds good, it feels good, and it's cheap.

Just as an aside, it's already a legal requirement in Maryland that all handguns be transferred with an "internal mechanical safety device." Virtually no guns have one the meets the state's definition (I'm not aware of any that do), so instead the effect of the law is to require all handgun owners to possess a bore lock of the appropriate caliber at the time of transfer. Cable locks are provided for free with all handguns transferred in this state (is that national?), and many gun shops have stacks of cable locks that they give out for free.

Cheap pieces of crap that are easily removed. Some trigger locks can be left in the gun and the gun can be fired.

A false sense of security.

Firearm safety should be included as part of the regular school curriculum. Sex, birth control they use to be forbidden topics to discuss in school. I say to the anti-2A people, grow up and stop acting like a bunch of Catholic school nuns.
