A Fort Hood soldier was arrested last week at the Texas-Mexico border with two people hidden under his uniform jacket. A federal judge ruled Wednesday there is probable cause for the charge of smuggling aliens.
Pvt. Eric Alexander Rodriguez, a 20-year-old soldier with 215th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, went before Ignacio Torteya III, U.S. magistrate judge in Brownsville for the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Texas, in connection with the Sept. 11 arrest.
Rodriguez was stopped by U.S. Border Patrol agents in Sarita while driving a Chevrolet pickup truck and dressed in his military uniform, according to a criminal complaint.
Agents conducted a consensual search of the truck and discovered two people concealed on the floorboard behind the front seat, underneath a bed sheet and Rodriguezs uniform jacket.
