Navy relieves commander of maintenance on San Diego ships
November 8, 2012 | 3:09 pm

The Navy officer in charge of intermediate maintenance on surface ships and submarines in San Diego Bay has been relieved of command after losing the confidence of his superior, the Naval Sea System Command announced Thursday.

Capt. Michael Wiegand, commanding officer of the Southwest Regional Maintenance Center, has been relieved after a Navy investigation found contracting irregularities, waste and lack of supervision in the maintenance provided to vessels of the U.S. Pacific Fleet.

Several civilians are also being transferred and may be disciplined, the Navy said.

Wiegand took command of the regional maintenance center in July 2010. He has been reassigned to administrative duty, the Navy said.

Wonder if there are new orders from on high to tackle waste and fraud in the military.
It would seem most appropriate.
