Man's suicide note leads his mother on a mission

http://hamptonroads.com/2014/08/mans-suicide-note-leads-his-mother-mission

Justina Glover, seen Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, has spent the past six months on a mission to figure out how the system failed her son, Navy veteran Jamel Glover, who committed suicide earlier this year.

PORTSMOUTH

Jamel Glover had a handwritten letter in his back pocket the day police found his body dangling from a telephone pole. The note was folded and stuffed in an envelope, tucked in between a lottery ticket and a tattered bus schedule.

Justina Glover fell to the ground and bawled as officers slid her firstborn into a black bag that chilly February morning. Most nights since then, she has been haunted by the image of her son hanging from a wire. But during the day, it's his letter that dominates her thoughts.

The 181 words he scribbled on a sheet of notebook paper set her on a desperate mission to confront the demons that drove her son to his death - and to expose the people she believes allowed it to happen.

This much she already knew: Jamel struggled to adjust after leaving the Navy in 2006, but the 34-year-old seemed to find purpose raising his two daughters and working on old cars.

The system has failed too many of our vets.

Thanks for posting unhappycamper. We need to hear these stories, even though they are depressing as hell.
