What did you do today?

Getting old (er) does not mean we have already died. What did you do today to keep your heart pumping, or your spirit soaring, or your twinkle (hmmm, at our age, just what does a twinkle do?)?...........twinkle in your eyes, guess I had to add that,,,,see I know how your mind works! ha.

I came in here. That was my big boost for the day. really it is. Played with the two cats we recently got from the Humane Shelter (Marbles and Dagger) and finished putting back together the treadle sewing machine I got for my wife last week. It is always a thrill to go into the little shop of mine and find just the right size bolt I need.

1. I'm retiring next month.

Had enough of the Man getting rich off my efforts.
Time to go full-time with my knife-making business. I've upgraded my forge and tools, and just spent some quality time walloping hot steel. Sure beats answering a phone and pounding a keyboard. (Yes, those were puns.) Tonight, I audition for a play.
That's the way life should be.

2. Started the morning with 2+ mile Nordic Walking.

Gotta keep movin' at 70.

4. I walk too,

about twice a week, 10 or so laps around the back yard. It definitely helps.

5. Got the bow down

and went out back for some archery practice. More for exercise than any other reason. But it sure brought back some fond memories of good times and good hunts. I don't hunt anymore, but I do miss the time in the woods.

6. Started out good - went to Ruby's Kitchen for some extra food but on leaving things turned around.

I almost caused a 3 car accident. Going to stay home the rest of the day. Hope this is not going to mean that I am getting too old. First time I have made such an idiot mistake.

7. Do you believe

this mistake was caused by a lack of practice? Since I do not drive on a daily basis any longer, I have noticed a deterioration of my driving abilities and I know that to correct the decline all I have to do is drive more, but I have no interest in doing that.

8. No I was tired and in a situation that I usually do not find myself in. In fact it was a situation I

make sure I avoid when driving. Crossing an one way highway with a lot of traffic. I usually use back streets that I am very familar with and there was more traffic than usual because it was noon hour. I learned a good lesson.

9. Well, hey, no harm no foul

everyone's heart rate bumped up a little, you learned something and everyone got to where they were going. Sounds like a win/win to me.

BTW, Ruby's Kitchen, is that a food pantry?

10. It is like a food pantry but once a month Second Harvest sells donated foods from restraunts and

grocery stores etc. for $15 and we get a lot of food. I live in a small community and there were 175 people their this month. Many older but also young people with children. This month we got 1 gallon of ice cream, bread, pizza crusts, instant oatmeal cereal, heavy cream, mixed vegetables, bagged soup, margerine, bottled water, pop and a few other things. The only thing I will not use is the heavy cream.

yes, a great way to keep your heart pumping. and your inner temperature raised.
When I built this house 30 years ago, I used plastic plumbing and have not had a problem with it yet, though it is noisy.

13. Well, at least it works now.

And today, I get to go for a good long walk.

The older I get, the more I think the whole concept of the modern house is wrong. Too big, too complicated, too expensive, too much work to keep it up. Things should be built to last, built to need little or no maintenance.

I got back today from ordering a headstone for my wife's great-grandfather, born in 1866, died in 1939. It's my birthday present for her.

17. What a coincidence!

I've been using a shop vac to empty out the downstairs bathroom, where the toilet and shower are overflowing, while we wait for Mr. Rooter to show up.

Such fun. So disgusting.

Good luck. Mine was not that bad, some leaky faucets, hoses, and a washer needing repairs. Had to go into the wall a little though.

15. Went with the family to rummage sales and then out to breakfast.

16. Then yesterday

I got the screens out, washed and put in. The cats love being able to hear the birds at the feeder; their tails indicating their desire to attack.
Is anyone putting out a garden this year?

19. Oh yeah, I feel guilty about that all the time too.

Coming along nicely though, I cultivate things that cultivate themselves. My goal it to be a hunter-gatherer in my own yard.

20. Went to a musical program sponsored by government arts programs with my great grandchildren.

Very good. The musician taught them to make music with things they can find in the home and then let them examine his violin, guitar, banjo, and other instruments. Well worth the governments money. Then went to a rummage sale for the Animal Rescue group in our community. Plus finally got my house completely cleaned.
