SS works FAST.

This responds to a recent post, AND tells my story.

My husband passed on May 15, I've been working on probate and other estate matters (and funeral, of course,) since then, and didn't contact SS until around June 20 to apply for Survivor Benefits. I had a phone 'appointment' June 24 discussing my application, was asked to send our marriage certificate and my Pension statement, put them in the mail June 24, and today, my Survivor Benefit and Funeral Expense benefit appeared in my checking account, via direct deposit.

I can now take further steps about my future life plans.

SS ROCKS! (Don't mean to sound happy, exactly, because there's definitely a sad undertone to this, but did want to share, and put everyone on notice about the process.)

SS is incredibly efficient. I had no problem signing up for benefits myself and when my mother died last year they knew about it and stopped her payments before I got there.

Would that everything worked as well. And if there is a God, then please God stop politicians and activists of all stripes from messing it up.
