not the whitewashed history the real history. My kids have been taught black history at home, but it should be a required subject and not just glanced over in February.

But you have to learn the truth, first.
For some it is important to first learn that geography aint all that important when it comes to historical racism, and current.

(24,544 posts)hell not even black AMERICAN history was deliberate. It would be extremely difficult to further the lie that white people are inherently superior to everyone else when you start to learn the incredible, multi-facted ways that every country and culture has contributed to the world.
I have often wondered, I love Shakespeare as much as the next person but the idea that he was the greatest writer ever? According to whom? Considering how little we are taught about the vast expanses of the world, am I just supposed to take someone's word that there were no Asian, African, Pacific Islander etc. authors that were equally as gifted as Shakespeare ever in the history of the spoken word? And that's the real danger of racism. Not only do the people practicing it limit their own knowledge and exposure, but it impacts everyone else's as well.

(147 posts)I'm all for it. But of course it'll never happen. Everything in our world is tilted toward who/what/where/when white people did something. We're fighting a brainwashing system that has been in place for over 150 years. There are so many African-Americans (men and women) who have contributed ideas and inventions not just to the black community, but to society. But, thanks to the internet, the history of their achievements is still on record. We can't rely on schools to teach, who and what we are, and how we've got this far.

(7,160 posts)I highly recommend that series of documentaries. We should start a Black History recommended reads and watches. Maybe I will do that later tonight. Or maybe someone more educated than I could help

As much as we've sacrificed for this country, and for our freedom, Black History, deserves more than a month!
