I just saw the movie, Dope, and one of the actors referred to the police as Po Po...It's a really funny movie about a black high school student from Inglewood and his geek friends who gets accepted at Harvard.
Zoe Kravitz is in it... She is a very pretty young woman. She reminds me of her mom at that age

(24,544 posts)because of this - http://gawker.com/straight-outta-compton-casting-call-is-racist-as-hell-1606524197
I don't know why that's called "racist." The controversy surrounding that is not "racist" it's sexist and ignorant as hell and has absolutely nothing to do with their history so much as them apparently thinking they're too good now for the girls that live in their hood and helped their careers grow.

(99,710 posts)I loved P E and NWA. A friend of mine, white, turned me on to P E in the early 90s. Me. him, and his brother saw Public Enemy at JJ Whispers Nightclub in Orlando of 1990. We had a blast.

(24,544 posts)And I looked in my car over the weekend and I've STILL got Straight Outta Compton in my CD collection!
So I can now say that I rocked NWA as a kid AND as an adult... and I still won't go see that movie!

(20,606 posts)Or, more specifically Cube, Ren, and Yella do a couple of songs during Cubes set at the BET experience.

The movie is better than I thought it would be although it drags the last half hour or so.
The guy who plays Eazy is amazing and Cube's son is pretty solid as well.
I get what you are saying about the sexist casting call, but it was for a pool party scene that had girls all over the place. It was the times...
Anyway, don't write it off. It really does a good job showing LA in the late 80s.

(24,544 posts)his proteges that KILLED it in the early-mid 90s and wrote their smash "Crossroads" about his death.
I'd pay good money to see that.

(20,606 posts)And Public Enemy is still killing it.
Chuck D is still my favorite MC.
Just were out last year with an interesting double bill with The Cult.

(31,849 posts)Years ago, a friend and I were driving to Lexington, KY from Cleveland, OH. As soon as we crossed the Ohio River, we stopped in a park to stretch our legs and partake in some ... er, ... refreshments.
Being the kind souls that we were, we shared it with some guys hanging out in the park.
We having a good time, then one of the guys we were smoking ... er, refreshing, with said, in a whispered voice, "Yo, Jake!"
My buddy and I weren't high ... er, refreshed ... enough to not know enough to drop and stomp it, and walk slowly towards the courts, calling "I got next!" ... but we were like, "Who the F' is 'Jake'?"
