I tried. I am sorry. Sadly Black Lives do not Matter.

Cross post.

At least at DU, they seem not to matter. Where are all the Bernie supporters? jwirr was. A nice post. A Bernie supporter. Thank you jwirr.

A lifetime since Ferguson's police department allowed Brown's bullet-ridden body to lay on Canfield Drive for three hours. Since a grand jury refused to indict Wilson, and a phalanx of police in military gear teargassed protestors and boxed them in with tanks. Since the world met Brown's parents and Jonathan Crawford III's girlfriend and Eric Garner's daughter and Sandra Bland's mom. It feels like a lifetime has passed since "Black lives matter"

But if there is to be poetry, it must be located in the everyday work of people across the nation who are organizing, chanting, marching, disrupting, boycotting, teaching, posting, creating, praying, losing their jobs and going to jail to assert what shouldn't need to be stated—that black lives matter.

One final question: You mentioned we don't have justice. What does justice mean to you?

Justice to me means that I should be able to walk down the street and just be the same way that a white girl is able to walk down the street and just be. Period. I should have the right to live, exist and be in my skin without being brutalized because of it. It's just normalcy—just the luxury of normalcy is what justice is. And we don't have that.

Many of us followed and supported the 'Mike Brown' marches and demonstrations. DU had many members that were there when the Black Lives Matter movement began and continue to follow it. In fact, I support Bernie because I think he will do a hell of a lot more to stem the injustice than any other candidate.

Hey, let's mock a movement about dead black kids by comparing them to sharks. One poster even implied that Mike Brown was to blame for his death.
Tone deaf doesn't even begin to describe it.

there have been times where I didn't "get" memes that the younger DUers would be joking about, and they'd throw a little snark at me for not catching on.

Thanks for the feedback--I felt a bit sick reading that but I wanted to be sure it wasn't some odd "thing" that I didn't understand.

As well as some people who think they are really cute. And a couple of folks in there also have rather storied histories in posts dealing with race.

If I had to choose between a thread like that and spending some time hate-reading at a conservative site, conservatives win. At least they're honest.

That's the way I feel, too--it's like pure snideness, like everything's a joke, it's all about "Team Bern" winning, and to hell with ethics, principles, and our fellow citizens. Everyone under the bus who gets in the way of 'their guy' winning.

That's not winning when you check your decency at the door.

so when you see my name, I hope you'll remember that I wholeheartedly support #Black Lives Matter. The throwing under the bus of BLM has horrified me. It happened so fast.
