It is lonesome in here!

I understand why no one is posting. It is for the same reason no one in the Hillary Group is posting. People move on to places where Hillary's accomplishments and Black Lives Matter issues can be discussed in detail without trollish comments, sexist comments, and snark. But, this is my favorite forum and right now I feel like I do when I Have hiked up the mountain at Thornton Gap on the Appalachian Trial and whispered off into the wind. Nothing but echoes of my owns sounds.

I'm sick of the bullying on DU. It will not win allies but certainly will ostracize people. Many women have left too sometime back. Some stop back by occasionally but most have found homes elsewhere. It saddens me because I joined back at the beginning.

I'm relatively new here so I missed the 08 primary so I have nothing to compare the current era to. I came to a democratic board because I thought it would be supportive of democrats.
AA is the best group on this forum. I still check it out but the racism directed at the president and PoC and the alert stalking of AA members is disappointing.
I'm waiting for the timeouts to be over and hope some folks come back.
To me, what goes on here is exactly why the dem party is at great risk of losing no matter who we nominate. This is the sort of thing that keeps the crucial voters from turning up to vote.

I stumbled across this blog in doing some research on Bernie Sanders yesterday.

It struck me as quite a different perspective on what matters politically from a race perspective. Here's the starter:

In the 1960s it wasn’t the hardest thing in the world for someone like him to step into that movement and play a part. Even someone on the fence with their racism could see how wrong segregation was and how inhumane black people were being treated under it. That’s so easy we still allow teachers to teach it that way in schools: that the television saved black people by enlightening white people over dinner about racism. That doesn’t make Sanders bad or mean he never cared about black people. But we didn’t check everything off the black problem to-do list in 1964. Black problems persist. And because they persist, people who work to solve those problems must be measured on a “what have you done for me lately” yardstick.

I never looked at it this way, but maybe he's right. For a long time there hasn't been a concerted effort in the US to continue to progress as a society in bringing equality to more of us. I would include race, LGBT, and others in the group. Then there's this:

Because in 2015 Bernie Sanders is to black liberation what Kim Kardashian’s book career is to publishing: it’s just enough effort to be able to put it on your resume. I know that sentence is hard to read, Bernie fans, but I need you to understand what I said from the beginning: the problem isn’t that Sanders has been walking around trumpeting black causes without doing black work. He’s not a hypocrite. He hasn’t been doing black work for a long time, nor has he been trumpeting the causes. By your own count, he hasn’t done the actual work in fifty – FIFTY – years. But that just makes him just like every other white American. In that way his efforts are completely average at best. No, the problem is with the movement around Sanders, which is so eager for his success that they interpret any criticism of his platform or history as an enemy attack.

https://scottwoodsmakeslists.wordpress.com/2015/08/13/you-dont-get-to-tell-me-bernie-sanders-is-my-friend/

I don't offer this as a condemnation of Bernie. I offer it to say maybe this guy is right. Bernie is just like the rest of us white Americans (myself included). We're just not doing enough to make a difference.

I'll be watching over the next few months to see which of Clinton or Sanders is able to develop the broadest coalition. I do have one rule of thumb I try to live by when voting. That is, the voters who support the candidate have to look like the folks I see when walking the mall...period. If their voters don't, as a block, look like what I see at the mall, they're probably doing something wrong. That may sound stupid or dumb to some, but for me it would be hard for me to vote for anyone knowing a large segment of my neighbors can't stand them.

So there you have it. I'm no Bravenak or 1SBM, but it's something to consider lol.

And, when your constant message is economic justice and everything else is a side issue, it just won't work. I agree with you about the malls.

A: One I an old white man known for his comical hair and his economics, who has a large number of opinionated libertarian leaning supporters who laud him for his uncompromising, anti-authoritarian, blunt attitude. The other is Trump.

I only stopped lurking and began posting when women on DU were being targeted a couple of years ago. Now all this. I don't know, I'm not yet ready to give up entirely because I don't want stupid to win. The other day I was going to reply to a post about food but then remembered that the person posting had recently posted something awful from Red State. Many people I've lost respect for and now are of no interest, whatever the topic. I will give them no encouragement. This festival of hate is ridiculous, all for nothing. I hope at least some people will stick around until a new residence can be found. It's sad when forums become lonely and then die. It's all been said before.

one person that were entirely non-political. When they posted something from Red State, I had to put them on ignore.

Surprisingly, I don't have that many people on ignore. I prefer to keep track of what the worst of them are saying.

After 2008, I reviewed my small ignore list. Most of those people had been tombstoned.

Hang in there. If it stays bad after the primaries, Skinner will have to act.

for the posters themselves since they are probably doing better things rather than dealing with the bs alerts and other drama here. and it's just going to get worse as we get more into the campaign and elections.

i do hope to see this place more active at some later point. but for many of the members themselves i can understand why they would not want to be here as much.
