They would rather attack DUers than folks who beat up mixed race couples

Interesting overview of this morning at DU.

The thread about the black man punching his girlfriend - earlier this week . . . remember that?

Well a mixed race couple got attacked by three white men in Bellingham WA.

The woman in the mix - is punched in the face (it's awful) by one of the bigots who didn't take kindly to that.

The police were hesistant to call it a hate crime because throwing out racial epithets while punching a woman in the face ya know . . . that's not indicative of a hate crime. :eyeroll:

Instead of the usual suspects (folks for example that follow around sheshe, bravenak, maggied, etc. etc. ) responding to the post by a fairly new member of DU in GD - they decided to come after me.

They can't resist TRYING to put us in our place.

When we RESIST - they accuse us of anger.

When we turn it back on them - then start laughing -

Another one will come in with a snotty eye roll.

Instead of focusing on the subject of the OP - and understanding the contrast to the thread earlier this week - and the very racist dog whistles all over it -

"You are angry'
:eyeroll:

It's so typical of America.

THIS is America . . . and then they wonder why affluent, rich, and wealthy black Americans -

We can't relate to them at all.

While I can maybe understand the first response, which was hidden - did this person really have to go digging for so many songs? - what was really shameful was the sub thread that debated the various offensive lyrics by different artists.

This was not the point of the OP.

I think that it sometimes happens - a thread is hijacked. But this one really left me puzzled and dismayed. And, I admit, I did not bother to read all the posts, though I did add my own.

Still, your courageous post will certainly make many DUers to stop and take notice.

They need to learn to relate to you. Your anger? Gee, I wonder what that is all about?

You have been relating to them just to keep out of harms way. You have had to. It is now time for all us white folk to start listening, checking ourselves and others if we have not already. WAY WAY WAY past time.

When we walk out our door in the morning, every minute of our life is awash in this privilege, yet we dont know it.

And while JustAnotherGen may be and likely is way way richer than you and me put together, she has experiences daily, regardless of her financial position, that you and I not only dont but cant imagine.

Good on you for noticing the problem and speaking out.

on the women's inequality issues and most from working deeply and long with LGBT in my state. Still, no matter how hard you try that privilege will come out now and again hurting others or in the least making you feel like a total jackass and a creep.

I do not care how down and out a white person is, their situation is still going to be easier than a person of color. I do not know how to get that message to them, it seems they do not want to hear it. It IS hard to hear things when you are also suffering but I have never understood why we always have to have someone else to shit on to feel better. Equality is not something that comes in tiny dribs and drabs and can be used up. After all these years I cannot figure a way to say that in a way that makes any difference.

I think most Bernie supporters would agree with all of this the problem was that they felt that they needed to stand up for Bernie. (my assumption) It snowballed into a very personal shouting match and got much much worse. I have never taken to personal care taking of candidates, people can lay Bernie out and I would correct policy mistakes they make but to be so offended that someone does not like him or what he did or what he said has always seemed odd to me. Political campaigns should be able to go on without the need for fainting couches.

I was horrified when the BLM ruckus started. I said a few things but it made no difference the balls were rolling and there was and in many cases still seems to be no way to break through that.

Age and political experience with equality have been very helpful to me but still, I feel very iffy about speaking up with this issue. It is so easy to accidentally offend those who need support. Here is my personal privilege (one of them), I never ever in my wildest dreams thought I would hear and read the things I have seen and heard lately. Not again. It is like it was when I was little I think, and I never imagined that again. White privilege. I never HAD to imagine it. My community and experience was that there were very few people who felt that way and those that did would most likely keep it to themselves. Incorrect.

**That is the essence of privilege, I did not have to worry about it at all, we had dealt with it and it was mostly all over. I feel like such a rube now when I look back. This is a grave mistake I know now. It is what allows this to come back again. I did not see it, hear about it so it was over. We should never become complacent, it will always be there most likely and will come roaring back faster than you can ever think.

I am sitting here in my little rural country home in Kansas of all places watching with hope and glee BLM kick ass and take names. They should leave Bernie alone? Look what happened when they did not leave him alone. I think, I hope and feel pretty certain they have made a huge impact on him and his campaign. He did not need protection he needed to hear what they were saying. Thankfully he wanted to. Now the rest of us need to listen.

EDIT to add: Thanks for the link!

difference.

And why in the HELL would BLM bother with con candidates, they know the cons are racists, it would make no sense.

Yes, BLM woke Bernie up again, as to race, even though he has been there all along he needed a reminder that money is NOT going to fix it.

I trust him to make the right moves, I also think that they should create a new cabinet if Hillary is elected instead of Bernie, call it "Jobs, Jobs, Jobs" and make Bernie the secty.

Maybe that's the point: it is easier to name-call posters than address the issues in the OP. There isn't an inch of depth with any of them, and threads like that take whites into a discomfort zone where some self-reflection is required to address the racism and hatred. Why they can't admit to themselves that they are out of their depth and just move on without posting is a different subject, imo:

I believe that some AA posters...you, Number23, 1SBM among others...are particular tempting targets because you are well-educated, quite capable of holding your own in any conversation, and rapier sharp. I see an attempt to force you into a stereotype, to bring you down a peg or two. The immediate jump in Blue_Tire's thread to "the community" was pretty blatant.

But I'm so familiar with the work around black feminism - that I can easily point out when the stereotypes are used.

And at the end of the day - I end up taking them down a peg.

If they would just shut their mouths/keep their fingers still - we could avoid all of this.

but they simply can't do it. As I said, I think you are simply a tempting target. That they will fail is irrelevant because they lack the self-awareness to even see it: "I think I get who you are now." Yeah, black woman can only be one of three things: uppity, angry, or "ho."

And here I've felt bad for that persona because she lists race bait threads on Saturday mornings that always sink to the bottom.

However - the one I refer to as That One tried to redeem him/herself by demanding we all spread the "perp's" name far and wide.

There is absolutely no need for their responses, none. I've learned a lot reading your posts and others, and other white people need to do the same. Skinner needs to step up and use the banhammer on several people, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Bernie made a good move when he went into Baltimore, made his statements, and had his press conference. Now if he would do a whole lot more of that, he might have a prayer. We'll see. By the way, thank you again for your help with my project. Much appreciated. Happy holidays to you and your family.
