"Donald Trump is White Man's last stand"

The author points out that Trump has greater support than the polls show. An interesting anti-Trump viewpoint from a conservative.

Bradley, you’ll recall, was former Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley, an African-American who ran unsuccessfully for California governor in 1982 and 1986. His 1982 defeat surprised pollsters who had predicted an easy win based on polling. Apparently, many people were fearful of being considered racist and falsely said they were going to vote for him.

Now we have people not saying they’ll vote for Trump lest the telephone surveyor think they’re out of their minds. But the question remains: Why do people like Trump even knowing they probably shouldn’t? Morning Consult’s revelations got me thinking and, by Jove, I think I’ve got it: Donald Trump is White Man’s last stand.

Hold your donkeys. This doesn’t mean that Trump supporters are racist, xenophobic, nativist, anti-immigrant — or ignorant. It isn’t only that our nation’s approach to immigration defies law and logic — or even that whites will soon become a minority, though this is no small thing in the identity equation. Nor, finally, is it because Trump is the precise opposite of Barack Obama, though this surely helps.

......................................................................................

Based on my research and observations in writing “Save the Males,” conservative white guys aren’t so much trying to hold on to power and privilege as much as they’re trying to find their footing in a culture they feel devalues and disrespects them. They’re tired of hearing that they’re the source of all problems. They’re sick of being the single demographic about which one can say anything at all and suffer only the annoyance of deafening applause.

Into this world gone awry drops Trump, the rich and powerful Wizard of Fifth Avenue, the deal-making champ with plush planes, a Palm Beach palace and a pin-up girl for a wife. His politically incorrect shtick may often be pure meanness masquerading as truth, but to those who’ve watched the country of their childhood reshaped into something unfamiliar, it sounds like the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing Handel’s “Messiah.”

except most of these yahoos have never heard of Handel’s “Messiah.”

This is from the fairly moderate conservative columnist Kathleen Parker.

We like being the default positve value. Having to figure out a reasonable alternative way to act in society is hard.

Also, blacks, hispanics and liberals are lazy dangerous buttheads.

(Even though I'm only half of it, being white but female.)

I'll tell you something that makes a person my age happy, even though I don't like mega-corporations - the difference between TV ads when I was young and now when I am old. Diversity-wise, I mean.

First, she says:

This doesn’t mean that Trump supporters are racist, xenophobic, nativist, anti-immigrant — or ignorant. It isn’t only that our nation’s approach to immigration defies law and logic — or even that whites will soon become a minority, though this is no small thing in the identity equation. Nor, finally, is it because Trump is the precise opposite of Barack Obama, though this surely helps.

Then, she says:

To choose Trump requires a conscious suspension of judgment in exchange for the passing pleasure of hearing one’s buried feelings expressed.

If one's buried feelings are racist, xenophobic, nativist, anti-immigrant — or ignorant; then, that person is racist, xenophobic, nativist, anti-immigrant — or ignorant, though they just might not act on those feelings.

You are right.

I just found it fascinating that a conservative columnist calls Trump out for what he is. Parker was also the first conservative columnist to call Palin an idiot, the day after the Couric interview.

I didn't want to go in to the flaw in the Morning Consult's thinking, regarding the more truthfulness of online respondents ... It is just as likely that those self-selecting online participants have a certain disposition, not found in the general population.

I suspect it will be years before online polling can be trusted, as too much of the general population is not participating online.

A POC has his hands on the 'button' and it's driving some people to fascism, more deeply violent racism and just sheer stupidity. I get it now and it's nothing that has, Since 2008, surprised me. This society will remain schizophrenic and hypocritical till the end precisely because a lot of white males can't handle their racial fears. They sterotype and degrade others not in their 'club' so as too hold on to the perception that they still are in control. Of everyone on this ducking planet.

Nope, I don't believe for a second that they're trying to find a footing, a way forward to normalize the inequalities for so many groups of people, let alone save the planet. Their problem is that they have to hear it. They cannot run away from it. They have no excuse, absolutely no way to reason their way out of it, and the fact that they cannot hold on to power and privilege AND get respect is compounding their insanity.

The ONLY respect for them that can come from a system of supremacy - created from the lowest depths of consciousness - is to watch our language, hide our feelings and fear them.

It could really get ugly. Even if Trump wins, I see America turning into something like the 1950s.
Innocent Muslims (as well as their businesses/mosques) are being attacked and the media ignores it. I expect that from Fox News, but even the so-called respectable news outlets are ignoring it to. Disgusting!
It's like I'm seeing a trainwreck in slow motion and not having any way to get everyone else to take the oncoming diaster seriously.
