This groups concerns are not even on the radar with certain folks.

It is becoming clearer and clearer by the day that if Bernie is our next president, he will take LOADS of shit if he doesn't SOLELY focus on improving the finances of a very specific segment of our society.

They will not tolerate him doing anything else, this is now clear to me.

The same way they didn't tolerate Obama improving healthcare because he didn't do single payer and he didn't immediately close Gitmo, etc...the list of reasons why he was no longer supported, is long, but not credible.

So if you have concerns that arent linked to overall Wall Street/financial areas, may have to shelve em for a while.

Obama has been HANDS DOWN one of the most liberal presidents this country has had and yet, these imbeciles still scream about what a Third Way corpo-fascist he is. And then they wonder why most folks wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole.

Everyone with any sense has said that regardless of who these people champion, they will turn on at the drop of a hat the MILISECOND whoever the champion is has to govern. And even though they proved everyone right they still act like they have it all figured out.

Not much, I'm thinking, yet they did help elect him to office initially. And of course they'll feel betrayed by a Sanders presidency. The second that man would have to govern, read COMPROMISE, they'd turn on him like a pack of wolves just like they do to every damn body else.

Yes, the most liberal president this country has had in... forever who has a 80+% approval rating from Democrats and Sanders has said he wants to do a "course correction" and won't continue the man's policies. Not only is this idiotic from a political standpoint, but if Obama has 80% support from Dems and Sanders says he wants to "correct course," isn't that basically him saying that the Dems who support Obama -- which would be the vast majority of Dems -- are wrong? That they need to be "corrected?"

Obama for not giving them what they wanted within the two years that he was in office, too many stayed home in the most important election of the last 40 years--2010! I will shout this until I die. We will have to live with the ramifications of the 2010 elections for many years to come because our not voting in large enough numbers gave us 31/50 state legislatures ran by Republicans, 29/50 Republican governors, local level judges, school boards and everything else in between---all dominated by Republicans. Not to mention, both houses of Congress forced hostage by crazy tea-bagging racists!!

People were furious with Obama in 2010, so to pay him back, they allow MORE and crazier Republicans to take over. Now they're even angrier at him, which makes ZERO sense, knowing that he really can't get anything done.

Folks simply refuse to use their common sense.

that year would have turned away, even and were a factor, but how MANY of those are there? How much of a factor were they in the setting of the enormous right-wing backlash to the election of a Democratic president, a president who was black, passage of the ACA, declining church membership, etc. How big a problem are they is my question?

BTW, anyone read Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right by Jane Mayer yet? I heard some stories about the Kochs from Mayer on NPR that alarmed me, and I thought I was already more than alarmed enough. Their father was a hard-core authoritarian John Bircher, of course, and he was also a great admirer of Nazism. I'm sending for it now. The Kochs and their allies created the Tea Party movement that swept the elections in 2010, no doubt including some of those we're talking about, and they have been stacking political offices and judgeships with their choices since the 1970s. WRTL and Citizens United are also their achievements.

For where our problems truly lie, I think we need to look farther than fringe types who can be depended on to not be dependable.

I forgot to note that the Kochs et al largely created the anti-government/establishment movements that have caught up the bernistas. Behind very real causes for dissatisfaction is manipulation designed to divert that anger in the wrong directions.

I'm willing to bet that there were some Bernistas (like that name), but also a lot of disgruntled Democrats angry at Obama who were not willing to give him a chance--chances that they were patient enough to give to Clinton and other non-black presidents, I might add. I don't care what anyone says. The Black Tax has always been in full effect---this man has had to been over backwards, forwards, had everything thrown at him and then some, and still it hasn't been good enough. Even a good number of black people are blaming this president for everything from persistent poverty to black on black crime to homelessness. Everything is this guy's fault. I simply cannot wait until he leaves office. We've watched him age and look sickly especially during the last two years. He does not look well at all.

Well, my former governor, O'Malley, is going nowhere so I won't be supporting him.

It'll be Bernie, but I still have a major bone to pick with Bernie and that is still his unwillingness to see (or accept) that race trumps class. But I guess we're losing that argument. People are deliberately being obtuse and ignorant about it. They know the truth but cannot come to terms with that truth and cannot accept it.

I've gone from really liking Sanders but feeling that he had no chance in hell to being really "meh" about him. His comments that he would be doing a "course correction" and not enhancing or furthering Obama's legacy has just about done it for me.

The first black president who is widely regarded as one of the most liberal we've ever had and has a 80+% level of support from Democrats and you are actually running from him and his record?? What the fuck kind of shit is that?? And not only did he put down Obama with that statement but also the 80+% of Democrats who are apparently too dumb and need to be "corrected" for supporting this president.

Between that, what you mentioned about his inability to discuss anything other than income inequality and the psychotic behavior of too many of his supporters, I think I'm done.

Donna was the ONLY one to really show up and celebrate as the returns came in. I remember when VA came in and we cheered. In my drunken stupor, I ran over to Donna and hugged her and told her how much I loved her. And she gave me a huge hug back and told me how wonderful we were and congratulated us on how hard we worked. It was never about her. It was about us! And we ended up partying for several hours, drinking and having a great time. I will never forget that night--the night Obama won and how much fun we had. And I will never forget how awesome, humble, and amazing she was. I had been a huge fan throughout her career and the major fight to beat the hated conservaDEM Al Wynn. When she finally beat him--and BADLY, too!--people were having Donna parties everywhere! It was great. When I moved from her district, I was so sad. I now have to settle for boring, milquetoast Chris Van Hollen.

I don't know how Donna is doing in the polls. I see Van Hollen signs everywhere, but that could be because I'm in his district. I need to get out and work for Donna now.

The funny thing about the Chelsea Clinton attacks on sanders on obamacare its that many if his so called supporters have been wanting to get rid of it and have attacked Obama over it. Sanders never has and he even said that was the only thing possible at the time and defends Obama on this issue.

That the kind of coalition which would have to form to get Bernie into the Oval office in the first place would counterbalance the dissatisfaction you're talking about.

The dissatisfaction faction is going to howl no matter what.

To them real life, compromise, deal making - these are all signs of impure thought and weak belief.

I hate the Tea Baggers not only because I believe that they are wrong on policy, but also because they demonize their opponents and consider compromise betrayal. That isn't the attitude that you need to sustain Democracy - That is the thinking of Autocracy/Authoritarianism

The Right wing doesn't have a monopoly on that type of thinking, unfortunately.

Of course If Bernie doesn't win the howling, rending of clothes and gnashing of teeth would be deafening.

Shoes how out of touch they are with minority communities .

It is very possible Sanders will win iowa snd new hampshire. But south carolina is where he could end it for Clinton. But they seem to be doing all they can to turn off voters to him there.

But you are correct, they couldn't care less about being out of touch.

In fact (and sadly) I think a lot of the members of the CBC who came in during the Clinton era in 1992--they were elected during the Wave of Progressivism in that election year, feel indebted to the Clintons. That's why many of them supported Hillary over Obama. It made me so angry but I understood it. Many of them are still serving in Congress and still feel allied with the Clintons despite Bill's horrible policies.

That AAs here care about social justice "only" because some of us are relatively well-to-do, thus we need not care about economic justice in our communities.

This is the furthest thing from the truth. What we DO realize is systemic racism is what prevents economic equality in our communities. Environmental racism, public health disparities, voter disenfranchisement, all play a part in this shit. I have family members RIGHT NOW, living in Flint and Detroit, and happy to get a job paying $12 an hour. And it's because how fucked up the Rust Belt is in general due to Republicans' fucked up policies and racist agenda. My family migrated here to work for good money, now most of the children are struggling because jobs were taken out of these communities and sent to other brown folks who will work for less money.

Racist thoughts cannot be legislated, period. We can make it rain with the money, but unless we have a cultural shift against prejudiced AND paternalistic/maternalistic thought processes, no amount of money is gonna change shit.

And hey yall. I left here for a while because I was uncharacteristically angry at some of the stuff I was reading, and needed to take a break to focus on my children's mastery program at a new school and my new career.

And I'm about to use one of their words: divisive. But we won't be divided. And it's fucked up that you or anyone else has been told this. We know better...And we will see how things turn out.

Part of my educational drive had and still has to do with seeing how the system is set up.

Part of me driving my children and my extended family the way I do is due to how the system is set up.

And a large part of it (also) is empathy and being in it for the long haul because none of what we have now is due to overnight changes and quite frankly, never will be. Who would I, or any of us black folks be, to abandon and talk down to those of us who have not been through this portion of the system, to be where we are now??? Truly, wtf.

It's insulting to be patronized, talked down to, and surrounded by people who think we are simple-minded and don't pay attention to the shit that goes on in America, regardless of educational level, money, and whatever else comprises the American dream.

I give y'all so much credit for hanging in there because I don't compartmentalize like y'all. It's definitely a gift.

It is another hint that their only real connection to the Black community is limited to (as my good friend, DSB says) "the guy that sells them their weed" Because as JAG has, repeatedly, posted: anyone that is intimate enough to have been invited to a Black family event (making them knowledgeable/connected enough to comment on what Black folks might think), would see, Cousin University Employee with the PhD., throwing bones the Nephew Fry Cook with the GED (attained while doing his 3rd stretch); and, Auntie 6-figure Corporate Administrator wobbling with Nicey 3 kids, going to Nail Tech School; and, all of them laughing at Uncle Pretentious and his new love, Betty Betterthan.

This is sooooo true.

I'm gonna be presumptuous here, but cookouts, beauty salons, barbershops, the corner sto' AND the corner people discuss politics all damn day long, and if people would take the time and lose the fear, stroll into any of these ciphers we have, they'd experience the depth of the conversations.

Even though some of us (and old folks of any color) may just have smart phones and not FIOS and shit, we're pretty savvy when it comes to information gathering. When it was illegal for black folk to read, we still found a way.

I just be sitting back and watching the foolishness, like my Mother, rest her Soul, would say.

Well said, Quayblue!

Part of me driving my children and my extended family the way I do is due to how the system is set up.

Good LORD you nailed it.

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING on this web site says to me "I have never known any black people" better than this small cadre of loud mouthed simpletons that ride 1SB's and other folks' ass because they are not living in the ghetto. NOTHING.

Because black folks know that black folks of ALL stripes go through hell and back. The freaking UN has openly suggested that America look at reparations! http://www.un.org/apps/news/story.asp?NewsID=53124#.Vq_th7J96Uk Do you think that the UN would turn its nose up and say that middle class and upper middle class blacks haven't experienced PROFOUND racism and racial discrimination, likely at every level of their professional and educational career?

The vast majority of upper middle class black folks didn't have shit handed to them. They usually got where they are from working their natural asses off and doing just what you're doing with your own children -- riding them like a ferris wheel! Making DAMN sure that they understand that being black is still an impediment today, that they STILL have to work twice as hard to get half as far. The day will come when this will no longer be true but we ain't nowhere near there yet.

And to make it so bad, most black women will tell you that they are taking care of their own children, their mamas and/or daddies, their brother's kids, their neice's kid, half the damn neighborhood because of the racism and discrimination that still results in alot of our people having children and being unable to care for them, puts too many black men behind bars and keeps too many of our folks un and under-employed. We need to be making every damn dollar that we can because our whole damn community is riding on us.

So I've got no time for the mouthbreathers that have "decided" that more educated/affluent black folks don't know what it means to be black and that THEY do just because they are broke as hell. The fact that this is probably one of the most ignorant, and offensive things that gets tossed around DU truly speaks to how ridiculous this place is now. And it's particularly egregious when you take into consideration that one of the biggest Obama and America hating black people here, actually tried to use MLK to REGULARLY attack this president, was lauded by this same crowd and by every account, she had more money than all of us put together. These people can all go straight to hell.

The cherry-picking is beyond amusing.

I saw a dig on T. Coates because he didn't finish his degree, in a thread lauding Killer Mike...who also didn't finish his degree. And then reading here today, and I forget who made the point, as I've just gotten into the habit of bookmarking... If President Obama wasn't an experienced J.D., hmmm.

And Lawd knows I'm not chiding folks for not finishing degrees. That's a whoooole 'nother subject. But the nitpicking is awesome. It's so safe to listen to black folks who agree regardless of credentials being vetting (another key word here) but dare any others of us dissent.

The shit that goes on is so utterly complex within the silliness. As my mother would say, I'm just gonna sit back and watch the foolishness.

That Obama had to be pris FUCKING stine with a Harvard law degree and the beyond perfect resume to get the same level of respect that Sanders gets with a BA from I don't even know where and 30 fairly uneventful years in Congress. And to be honest, the people who have disrespected Obama so much while falling over themselves to praise Sanders will never realize how they look. They will just never get it.

The shit that goes on is so utterly complex within the silliness. As my mother would say, I'm just gonna sit back and watch the foolishness.

People have posted that same "African Americans are BERRRRRNING for Sanders" video at least 5 other times on DU. Do you think there is an award for the number of times it can get posted? And I love how it is always trumpeted whenever the latest polls/articles show his support in minority communities. It's like that cherry picked MLK quote that just kept coming up over and over again like a vampire.

And the OP with some radio host castigating the black community for "making Sanders jump through hoops" is just sickening. We are "allowed" by our betters to scream about Hillary's BS during the 2008 campaign and Bill's policies on the prison industrial complex until the cows come home but ANYTHING that so much as questions Sanders and his commitment to the black community is black folks "making the man jump through hoops". I haven't seen the video and I'm not going to, but I have no doubt if that radio host could see exactly who was jumping up and down and high fiving over his video, he'd be doing some SERIOUS second guessing of himself and who his allies are.

It's been a hysterical last few days. But I have to say that the cherry on top was the folks posting Killer Mike's poorly spelled and even more poorly thought out Tweets in "refutation" of T Coates' incredibly intelligent and thought provoking piece. These people out themselves more and more by the second and adorably, they seem to be the only people that don't understand that.

There are alot of incredibly intelligent black people that aren't sold on reparations so if he's one of them, I don't hold that against him.

But I still think that if he could take a peek in GDP and see the caliber of the folks that were whooping it over his radio spiel -- though if I'm not mistaken, it wasn't even that many and it appeared to be the worst of the worse. I think that thread only had about 50-60 recs which kind of tells you all you need to know -- he would have thought long and hard about the position he was taking.
