Related: About this forumI love President Obama
I wasn't originally a fan of his. I supported Hillary Clinton in the 2008 Primary as I am now. But as a lapsed Baptist I know converts makes the best witnesses:

He is a fundamentally good, thoughtful, and decent man.
I just felt the need to say it.
Thank you.

She's even a wonderful dog-mommy!
She has everything, the whole package. No wonder he is still so in ove with her

(1,095 posts)Except I was an Obama fan in '08. I really adore that guy. Heck, I even had an 8x10 framed glossy of him on my bookshelf before we moved. Sounds weird and old-fashioned, I know, but he really means a lot to me and my wife.

(11,833 posts)Seriously, I want to grow old with a beautiful photo of them, framed and put it on my bookshelf. I can be like those old Irish bars that still have the framed JFK photo behind the USA and Irish miniature flags. I think there's something really fun in those kinds of traditions.

(11,833 posts)I loved him right away and have been so proud seeing all his accomplishments for us and others. I first heard about him from my girlfriend in NYC. She was a year ahead of him at law school. Then there was this NY Times article, which I remember discussing with her.

I loved him seeing him introduce John Kerry at the democratic national convention. One of the great speeches in history:

(1,095 posts)I remember that night so well. I had it on in the garage while I was waxing the car. When he did that "my mother from the other side of the world, in Kansas" thing, with that great smile afterwards, I was floored. I live in IL and didn't know he was that good. Let alone the red/blue America line.
I'm going to miss him so damn much.

(11,833 posts)He was young. I remember speaking with my brother on the phone the next day. He was saying how moved he was by that speech. The we're not liberal america or conservative america we're the united states of america lines are some of our country's greatest oratory. Re-watching it I'm also still moved by the lines that I am my brother's keeper, I am my sister's keeper.
We were floored then and he has not let us down. We have health insurance for 30 million more people. We still have work to be done The challenges he discusses will always be there for us. That's the point that he's always made, that we've always made. The work never ends. The point is to keep pushing since there's always work to be done. We find joy and comfort with those around us who share these beliefs! I've become a better person toward those around me because of President Obama's audacity of hope.

(13,189 posts)I almost feel like I need to defend him daily on DU - That pisses me off to no end.
Even today I've had to respond to far too many "democrats" who are dismissive of or even hostile to one of the finest men to ever hold the office.
