http://wonkette.com/598261/bernie-bro-just-wondering-who-her-royal-highness-michelle-obama-thinks-she-is-anywayThis young man called Michael Sainato offers no examples to prove his assertion that Michelle Obama is insincere, yet polished and indistinguishable from the first ladies before her. That might require a full minute of Googling to learn thing one about the countrys first African-American (but totally status quo) first lady, and how can a young earnest Sanders supporter be expected to find the time in his busy schedule of drawing I heart Bernie on his notebook?
Had he bothered even to read the one link he provided in his own post, he might have learned that Michelle grew up in a one-bedroom apartment on the South Side of Chicago but the affluent part, we are sure. This daughter of a secretary and a city water plant worker, a descendant of slaves, must have enjoyed quite the pampered upbringing unlike her superior, Jane OMeara Sanders:
While Michelle was gallivanting about at Princeton and then Harvard Law, like a typical black woman who takes her silver-platter privilege for granted, Jane Sanders was giving back to The People as a community youth organizer for the City of Burlington.

Or maybe he picked the right one. For the past day or so, my Twitter feed has been popping with angry tweets about some pro-Bernie Sanders blogger at The Huffington Post slamming First Lady Michelle Obama, while arguing in favor of a Jane Sanders First Ladyship. Nobody was linking the piece, though, so it wasnt until I saw it at Wonkette this morning that I was able to evaluate this bizarre bit of political trolling for myself.
The author of the piece, Michael Sainato, has managed to create a specimen of cliché Bernie Sanders supporter so pure, it could have been extracted from the brain stem of an Obama voter and grown in a laboratory. Whats the only thing left for a Sanders supporter to do to alienate black voters after snippily lecturing them about civil rights? How about attacking Michelle Obama, does that do it for you?

(31,235 posts)so they've opted to attack the things we hold dear. This doesn't surprise me at all. When I look at BS rallies, and the sea of white faces in the crowd, I know exactly who he's attracting, and I'm not at all interested.

(8,203 posts)One idiot freelance writer. There's not a sea of Bernie Sanders' supporters who dislike Michelle Obama, at least not where I live. The Sanders' supporters I know--in small Northeast city--like and admire her very much.

But you're right -- most of them leave Michelle alone.

(89,252 posts)i like sanders and i feel more comfortable saying that in this group than in places which are supposed to be for his supporters because i'm so turned off by the hate. and i'm not talking about hate towards hillary clinton either as she is the other candidate. but attacks on obama and the way they view blacks and other minorities just turn me off.
and then you have the conspiracy theories.
to be fair to sanders many of these people were this way before he was running and i don't think sanders is anything like that.
but it says something his own campaign had to tell people to be respectful.

(15,369 posts)attack Michelle Obama. No sane Democratic candidate would ever condone his supporters attacking her.
Michelle is amazing. She is now and will certainly be remembered as an outstanding First Lady, not simply for us fortunate US citizens but for citizens all around the world. She has led by grace and example and done us proud all round.
Do some eedjits really believe that comparing this wonderful First Lady to her detriment to ANYONE else is a way to win hearts and minds?

(31,849 posts)That's the problem! Many of Bernie's most "enthusiastic" supporters are NOT Democrats (or, use the term as a secondary, or tertiary, political self-descriptor), and proudly so.

(34,582 posts)loves our current First Lady. In fact, the worst thing I ever said about ANY First Lady is sometimes saying Barbara Bush looks like the Quaker Oats guy (and I feel bad for having done that)

(11,833 posts)many berniebros have been trashing the President and his Administration for years. Like drunkards crashing the wrong party. Some of these dimwits (or trolls) have recommended every thread criticizing him and fawned over people who called him a piece of shit used car salesman and other epithets. It shouldn't surprise them that they get pushback when they lecture others how to vote. Especially those pushing the 'audacity of nope.'
Those who criticize every democrat not named Warren or Sanders. Those who admit to not voting in congressional elections or say they won't vote for another democrat. Why anyone would say that and expect anyone to care what they say about social change is beyond me.

(24,544 posts)but shit on this president and his mostly female and minority supporters from sun up to sun down. And weep and bray like mules when these folks are shown the door -- YEARS too late -- even after saying that the McCain/Obama showdown in 2008 was the one election they wanted to see overturned. Saying you dislike Obama's policies? Who could fault that? But the idiotic, immature name calling, the questioning of his very morality and humanity, has been beyond the pale here and other "liberal" web sites for YEARS.
And then these same folks sit around, slack jawed, trying to figure out why so many people of color who have seen this snarling, open mouthed hatred for this president, want absolutely nothing to do with them or the vast majority of candidates and issues they support. You would have thought that as long as these people have been in the political wilderness they would have gotten a clue by now but that is apparently never, EVER going to happen.

(25,538 posts)that was extremely helpful after the Fukushima nuclear disaster about 5 years ago. He'd post translations from Japanese sources about Fukushima and the government and finance, no doubt he was a lefty and very smart. Then I began noticing comments about Obama hiring czars, using teleprompters, showing his birth certificate. At first I thought he was making fun of people believing in right-wing conspiracy theories, but he wasn't. I tried telling him that all American presidents appoint czars and use teleprompters because as a Japanese person maybe there was a chance he didn't know, but was swarmed and mocked by his followers. Never commented again. Soon he'd post any smear from any source about Michelle Obama's million dollar vacations paid for by taxpayers, her shopping sprees, how incompetent and stupid Obama was. I stopped reading his blog.
It was a shock. How could such a smart guy have absolutely no common sense when it came to ridiculous right-wing smears? It calls into question his judgement on everything. Who looks at the Obamas and sees such ugliness? And who looks at Hillary Clinton and sees someone only interested in money? I'm sure that blogger is going on about Hillary's 600 dollar haircuts and Chelsea Clinton's Wall St. husband.
These days I'm not shocked when I see people like this. It's like they have a blind spot in their brains. I still wonder how they got that way though.

(24,544 posts)assorted idiocy. I will never get it.
But like you said, it's a blind spot. When people actually start to hate people/institutions/systems they lose their capacity for rational and coherent thought. Remember that episode of the Simpsons where they found a crayon stuck in Homer's brain and discovered that's what had been making him so goddamned stupid all of these years? That's exactly what hate does. It's like sticking a crayon in your own brain. And I am just amazed at the number of people that do so WILLINGLY.

(37,457 posts)Some Sanders supporters need to take a good hard look at their WHITE PRIVILEGE and stop this bullshit. Stop slamming President Obama until the election is over (hint: if you're really that aggrieved, go write a letter, etc) and stop lecturing PoC!
