hopefully there are no conspiracy theories with this . i expect to see more of this as we get into the national campaign and clinton is likely to be the nominee. i think most here said this was going to happen. the secret service makes it tougher to protest her but this was a private event which made it easier once they got in.
<A Black Lives Matter activist disrupted a private event featuring Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton on Wednesday and confronted her regarding her past support for policies that enabled mass incarceration, the Huffington Post reported.
Footage from the event shows Ashley Williams stand behind the former secretary of state and hold up a towel bearing the statement, we have to bring them to heel, a remark Clinton made in 1996 in support of the Violent Crime Control Act regarding gang members, who she also described as super-predators.
After Clinton turns around and reads the sign, Williams tells her, We want you to apologize for mass incarceration. I am not a super-predator, Hillary Clinton. Will you apologize to black people for mass incarceration?
Can I talk? Clinton replies, before continuing her speech as a Secret Service agent attempts to convince Williams to leave.
Event attendees can be heard behind Williams calling her rude. However, she continues to press Clinton, telling her, Please explain it to us. You owe black people an apology.
You know what? Nobodys ever asked me before, Clinton responds as another agent takes Williams by the waist and leads her away. Youre the first person to ask me, and I am happy to address it. But you are the first person to ask me.>

(111,267 posts)especially since the War on Drugs is the excuse for locking up enough black men that the white male ruling class wouldn't be unduly inconvenienced by the Civil Rights Acts.

(24,544 posts)But then again, having read about the super tight, super close circle she has that keeps 99% of the world away from her, there may be some truth to it.

(7,160 posts)I still don't think it was handled well, maybe she will address it.
Number23
(24,544 posts)comment out of context. Clinton was specifically talking about gang members and I think you'd be hard pressed to find many black folks that don't consider gang members predators, "super" or otherwise.
Now, I understand why Sanders supporters are breaking their fingers trying to turn that into a "she's a racist!11" smear but I don't understand why this young activist decided to bring that into the conversation.

(7,160 posts)I am glad she did it. BLM was being pushed back and it needs to be front and center until there are actions.

(24,544 posts)I was glad to see that Obama recently invited them to the White House. My biggest fear is that their cause may become mainstream or get ignored. I am glad to see that's not happening, at least not yet anyway.

(24,544 posts)when they clowned Bernie are whooping it up and screaming that this is going to "doom" her campaign. One poster is even demanding to know where AA Duers are.
When Hillary supporters show their asses like these people did in these threads:

then these folks can DEMAND to know where we are. And I'm not even necessarily talking about the OPs of these pieces, the comments within more than speak for themselves.

(2,197 posts)it's all about their little candidate and we are just votes to them.
And that goes for the supporters of both candidates...
and as for Miss Scarlett O'Hillary here...

(24,544 posts)The only thing worse than their two faced hypocrisy is the rampant stupidity that's obviously behind it. I'd feel sorry for them if they weren't so damned hateful and dishonest.
If Hillary Clinton really expects people to believe that this is the first time she's ever been asked that question she's full of it too. Or that is a damning condemnation of the American media.

oh, i'm sure hillary was has been questioned, the video with the blm guy where she actually comes off looking ok shows this. if asked to explain she will probably say something about how nobody asked about that specific quote when the protest was about more than the quote itself. .

(3,580 posts)Inspite of white politicians. No one running for office should get a pass. What astounds me is some liberals don't think black voters have this figured out by now. I'm glad the younger folks are acting up, while I respect the activists from my era, frankly we're about ready to drop dead. Our future depends on these young people.

(24,568 posts)bearing a picture of Bernie and Martin, fall on your knees, and beg forgiveness for being both blind and deaf.
The fact that all of the candidates are flawed is simply not going to be acknowledged, and therefore the conversations we should have won't take place. People who demand that this supposedly monolithic group "explain" yourselves are not in fact open to receive any thing you would say. It is more than a pity, but right at the moment the correct word is escaping me.

Number23
(24,544 posts)that she's been posting.
You're damn right. Those things can't be "unsaid" and the fact that so many are now trying to leap and pretend that BLM matter so much and is "right" now is vomit inducing. They have no idea how idiotic they look.
BLM goes after Sanders? They're agents of the Illuminati, Soros and overall darkness and must be destroyed.
BLM goes after Clinton? Suddenly they become the one truth and defenders of justice and the divine spirit.
Like I said, I have never seen people so full of shit. They fool absolutely no one and they appear to be the only ones that don't understand that.

(11,243 posts)Haven't watch the video. No power and I am blowing up my data...... I'll watch later at work.
But from the description, sounds like she did poorly. And not like the campaign didn't see this coming....
I am a Clinton supporter too, but applaud what #BLM does, even when it makes my favored candidate look bad. Activists are SUPPOSED to make candidates look bad. That is what forces the changes. Key is to get a candidate who can take it on board and is then WILLING to change.

(1,499 posts)Straight up, I'm a Bernie supporter BUT it has ZERO to do with his racial justice policies OR with Hillary's racial justice policies. The day I count on folks that look like them to protect, or even understand, me or mine is the day I put myself under the yoke.
We see it here, even confronting a bright flower of racism that can be seen from a mile off like the so-called "War on Drugs" creates a "controversy." What's worse, when our "supporters" start to talk about it, their discussion is infected with stereotypes of "our problems" and "what they can do to help."
Speaking for myself, you know what I would like to see as a starting point? How about America admit that what they call "our problems" are actually exactly what they want them to be and what they intentionally created. They create gangs, unemployment, crime, violence, misogyny, drug addiction, academic "failing," broken families, etc. AND they concentrate those "problems" in little pockets where they can point to them and simultaneously justify how they demonize, pity, or otherwise lord over us as a race (their justification for everything from the war on drugs to the insane proliferation of "self-protection" gun ownership, to capital punishment) while making sure that those "problems" only rarely diminish THEIR lives. What's more, when pointing to these pockets they ignore the FACT that, despite their best efforts, the vast majority (and not only those of us who make the front page of the paper getting some medal) have not just overcome, we have excelled.
Quit talking about "our problems" . . . talk about yours.

(8,709 posts)But it's been time and time again, America would rather kill itself first than directly face the problem head-on, from the Civil War to their drug addictions to the spike in early deaths and suicides. Just about every problem the country faces as a whole is deeply rooted in supremacy because they refuse to link what they do to PoC to the affect on themselves.
We just have to wait for them to catch up but make sure they stop killing us with impunity while they put themselves through a slow death.

I'm glad about the way BLM has brought conversations about racism into the election. I'd honestly rather these protests be at Democratic functions than at GOP functions--those Trump supporters scare me.

(4,035 posts)Good of Ashley Williams to have the courage to confront Clinton. As said up-thread, that is what activists are supposed to do.
A big part of why I am a Clinton supporter is because I think she has the will to change her stances when things like this happens. The future will show if I am right.
