It is about Trayvon Martin, and Oscar Grant, and countless others...
It is about those who have all the power vs. those who have NONE...
It is about the families-parents, spouses, brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts and uncles, children, nieces and nephews-who have no peace, no justice, no closure.
It is about our moral failings as a society, and the ways in which the dominant racial group is absolutely complicit in those failings.
It is about the silence that accompanies the violence, and the "good people" who do nothing...
It is about a failure/abdication of responsibility on the part of policymakers and pundits alike.
It is about the ways in which we teach our children and grandchildren, both consciously and unconsciously, to hate the Other.
It is about how nearly five decades after the death of MLK,Jr., the Dream is being stolen from all people of color.
And it is about the ways in which this society-this sick,self-destructing society-has systematically and delibarately undermined so many people (human beings, with dreams and hopes and fears and aspirations of their own) because they happened to be born into the "wrong" racial or ethnic group.
As of right now, we have 18 minutes. I have faint, but real hopes. But I'm not getting them up too much, unfortunately. Because I really fear for this country and society.
