In New York City marchers chanting "Black lives matter" snarled traffic on Broadway through Times Square.
In Chicago, demonstrators walked up Lake Shore Drive carrying banners that read "Justice for Mike Brown".
Police in Ferguson used smoke canisters and trucks to force waves of violent protesters down the street away from the police building soon after sporadic gunshots were heard. Flames from a burning car rose into the night sky.
Whistles pierced the air as some of the hundreds of protesters tried to keep the peace, shouting, "Don't run, don't run."
What happened to the narrative? I thought black folks were going to start a race war last night? I saw a bit of the NYC protest up 7th ave on Fox 5 NYC last night. I saw where the citiizens of Oakland got up to a freeway in CA and even made it to Rodeo Drive for a sit in. 300 people in front of the White House.
I thought - I thought America was going to explode last night?
That didn't happen? And did I really see gang members from opposing gangs standing together, shirts off, to defend businesses in their community?
Funny how the bad become good, the good become bad, and the media got its ass handed to it last night.
Now - can more people who are not black in America stop making judgments based upon what the media tells them about us? There were no race riots last night. And black people didn't run around murdering white people.

(18,124 posts)RWers and others will never stop demonizing minorities. It's something of a sport with them. Yet a small quiet place in my heart is glad no huge confrontations transpired and that IS a good thing. We do not need more martyrs in this generations long fight for human, voting and civil rights. What sad, sad and hypocritical times we all have to endure. How can these ferguson murderers and murderer enablers live with themselves? Mccolic last evening showed what a person with no conscience is like. And to all the white power structure idiots who were/are chomping at the bit for your RAHOWA, no deal. You may have lived to fight another day, but so have we and we'll make the fight on OUR terms, idiots.

(48 posts)I felt sorry for my gullible brothers and sisters who placed their hope in this broken and partial system called our judicial system. I saw a video of a hugely built white man resisting arresting. He managed to wiggle free from the two officers and severely punched, kicked and beat the officers and all the while not one shot was fired. Trust me a black man would have never survived that situation. The fact is black lives don't matter. Rest in peace Mr. Brown and may God comfort your families. In memory of Trayvon Martin.

(53,661 posts)It's half black and mixed, and the the half white and mixed, and there wasn't even a word said in anger. Was I supposed to hide under the bed from my neighbors?
Sorry, Goebbels media, your attempt to have us arm up and kill each other in an orgy of hate did not happen. I know you are heartbroken.
Here is the local response:
Protesters take to streets of Seattle following Ferguson decision
BY Josh Kerns - November 24, 2014
Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Seattle Monday evening after a grand jury in Missouri declined to indict Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting that left 18-year-old Michael Brown dead and sparked weeks of unrest in August.
A group staged a "die-in" in Seattle's Westlake Park, laying down in the street before marching to Capitol Hill and then onto the Central District.
KIRO Radio's Brandi Kruse is with the demonstrators and reports while there is anger, there has been no violence...
Mayor Ed Murray urged calm in a speech following the decision.
"My message to the young African American men in Seattle today is this:
While we do not have the answers today, we in this city are listening to you.
Your city hears you. And your city loves you.
In this hour of pain, your city is absolutely committed to moving forward with you, together, towards greater peace and greater justice.
My message today to all Seattle residents is to ask that we all reach out to our neighbors - across racial and cultural lines in particular - commit to a promise of making our city a better place."
Seattle is located in King County, and was named after William Rufus King and its flag and logo was a royal crown. But a motion was passed to change it to the image below of Martin Luther King, Jr.:
It may sound crazy, but it just makes me feel better seeing that image of MLK, Jr. almost everywhere I go here. Thinking of his legacy and the higher spiritual plane he lived upon, and an example to all Americans.

Some of the fools around here have lost their fucking minds. And we all know that they are by no means alone.

(31,828 posts)I'm going to say it again-
I have seen the affluent, rich and wealthy at DU "demonized".
DU is where I was introduced to The Story Of Stuff.
I've seen snark about how materialism and nice things aren't cool.
I've seen stupidity about taxing people to the point that everyone makes $15 an hour.
Now - allllllllll of a sudden I have materialistic jerks in my midst. Now they are shorts bunching over "stuff"?
Slap my ass and call me Sally Number23 because we have gone down the rabbit hole.

(55,445 posts)of course the media predicted coast to coast violence before the Zimmerman verdict too (including a pre-verdict "please don't riot" statement from Zimmerman's attorneys which was so vile, condescending, and disgraceful I'm disgusted to even think about it), and none of that happened, either....
