What Fiction are you reading this week, July 5, 2020?

Listening to Dark Sacred Night by Michael Connelly. I got on the waiting list for this a while back and it was now finally my turn so I put off Agatha Raisin for now. Harry Bosch teams up with Detective Renée Ballard and each is read by a different person. The guy reading Harry is Titus Welliver, who plays Bosch on the TV show. So this is really enjoyable to listen to.

Speaking of listening, in all my years I have never heard so many fireworks as I did last night. My little town put on their biggest show ever, most of which I could see from my back yard and that was enjoyable. But then several neighbors around me also put on their own huge shows. Not sure why exactly. Since we could easily see the professional show. For free.

I went in at 10:30 but the neighbors’ constant booming continued until midnight. It was really annoying. This did, though, give me ample time to start reading Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami. It has been a bit since I read a good fantasy and I thought this one sounded promising.

3. "Resistance Women: A Novel" by Jennifer Chiaverini

Takes place just as the NAZIs are consolidating power In Germany. Quite unnerving in today’s political climate.

9. I really like C.J. Box, too

That one sounds really good: another searing novel of loyalty, lies, and lethal retribution. I love Montana, have been there a few times. It does have a distinct character. Mountains are gorgeous.

13. I have seen all their movies several times.

I have several other books about the Marx Brothers. The characters they played were not really characters. They were extensions of their real life personalities.

I am old enough to have seen "You Bet Your Life" on live TV. My parents did not object of us watching it when we were kids.

I remember seeing an aging Groucho on Dick Cavett, singing "Lydia, Oh Lydia, the Encyclopedia, Lydia the Tattooed Lady."

I love seeing those old "You Bet Your Life" episodes, pretty rare now. Say the secret word....

And Lydia will live in my memory forever.

but am delighted to find James' newest is Careless Whiskers, which is about cats and theatre, two of my favorite things. I will definitely be looking into all of those. Thanks! purrrrrrr....

The land being Bulgaria, which sure looks like a gorgeous place. A good book to learn about its history.
