Patricia Highsmith's Notebooks and Diaries

There's a review today in the NYT of the diaries of Patricia Highsmith who wrote The Talented Mr. Ripley. All about being young in NYC in the 40s. A few years ago I vowed to stop buying books because I had so many. This sounds so interesting I might buy it.

I think her novel “The Price of Salt” is one of the beautiful books ever written.

Highsmith was also known to have a mean streak, which always seemed to me incongruous with some of the characters she created.

I may need to buy this book as well.

I've been reading an article on the New Yorker about her. It features her "first sentences" in the intro.
