precious possessions of living a songbird no longer sings
silently with looks of trouble its gutted gilded cage rots
selling discarding giving away all that carefully hoarded
packed in boxes wrapped tight in bits of string and tape
no longer set out on display doors and windows boarded
becoming a stranger to sight under a dusty ghostly drape
not noticing the needful is gone the treasure chest empty
a worthless coin rattling alone when a mystery is shaken
poor portraits so badly drawn faded in frames unkemptly
faces gaunt mere skin and bone all of life has been taken
wandering into the tunnel a few memories left to treasure
flowing through the funnel finding no time left to measure
