Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award now open

This contest for unpublished or self-published novels is now taking entries and will do so until January 27 at 11:59 pm EST, or until they receive 10,000 entries.
This year the grand prize is now a $50,000 advance and contract and there are four first prizes of $15,000 and publishing contracts. Even quarterfinalists will get a Publisher's Weekly review of their manuscript.

So they haven't got 10,000 entries yet. In previous years, they had closed by this time.

EDIT: I just checked and they are now closed.

There was something called NaNoWriWee, in which you have to write a novel in a week. The prize: an advance on publication by Harper Collins as an ebook. So here's the rule: research contests that start in January because those tend to be the big ones. And check out Predators and Editors (http://pred-ed.com/) to ferret out the scammers.
