Bartolo Colon Suspended 50 Days for Positive Test

A’s starting pitcher Bartolo Colon has been suspended 50 games for a violation of Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Colon, 39, reportedly tested positive for testosterone.

Colon is the second Bay Area player to get a 50-game suspension in the past week for elevated testosterone. Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera was suspended Aug. 15.

Colon has enjoyed a resurgence this season, going is 10-9 with a 3.43 ERA.

The organization fully supports Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program and its efforts to eliminate performance-enhancing substances from our game. Per the Basic Agreement, the A’s will have no further comment."

More a matter of control than strength, though endurance plays a part, especially for a 39-year-old.
