Too bad MLB couldn't have done right by the A's, who have a better record than the Tigers, and put the A's in Oakland for the first two. Oh well, the A's will have to sweep the Tigers once they go back to Oakland. Wiil they? Probably not.

I'd have thought it would be better to know the last game will be at home no matter what. Obviously down 2 you'd wish for something different, but after a split the A's would have been sitting pretty. I don't see this as the league screwing them at all; losing both games is their problem.

Too bad none of us peasants could watch the game. I'm certainly not paying for a premium cable to watch one or two playoff games...

Edited to add: I do agree that the 2-2-1 format is superior for a 5-game series. I'm also no fan of the 1-game wildcard play-in, for that matter. But given the format the league announced that's just what the teams have to deal with...
