As far as the BCS championship picture is concerned, theres one undefeated team in college football: top-ranked Notre Dame.
But, thanks to some misguided finger-crossing by the universitys administration last year in the aftermath of Tat-gate, Ohio States currently spotless 11-0 record is only so in the eyes of the Associated Press weekly top 25 poll, where the Buckeyes hold down a No. 4 ranking. The Buckeyes postseason ban means no shot at a Big Ten championship though this years Leaders division trophy will be on display in Columbus or a BCS championship.
Still, that hasnt stopped some Ohio State fans from attempting one final (and desperate) push to maybe, possibly get the ban overturned. According to FOX Sports, a petition asking President Barack Obama to pardon Ohio State was created. Though the petition was eventually taken down by whitehouse.gov for violating terms of participation, FOX was able to capture the petitions message, which reads as follows:
The Ohio State University football team is one win away from an undefeated season. However, due to imposed sanctions, they are not allowed to participate in their conferences championship game or the following bowl season. While a punishment for past indiscretions is to be expected, a bowl season ban is too harsh for a few young men trading memorabilia for tattoos and some change. The offending players and coach who covered it up are no longer part of the program. Please exercise your executive power to pardon the NCAAs excessive sanctions placed on The Ohio State Buckeyes to enable a rightful, satisfying culmination to the college football season for the American people.
Thats right, Mr. President. Do it. For America.
Now, clearly this had no chance of passing, but we salute (in the spirit of patriotism) those Ohio State fans so bold as to ask the Commander-in-Chief to stop everything else hes doing to pardon their beloved Buckeyes. Like, hey, Mr. President. I know youre busy with some wild stuff going on with Israel, but can you approve this real quick? Or, you know what? Here, Ill just leave it on your desk right there. Okay. So, uh, yeah. You know, Im just gonna
whatever, Im not here. Go Buckeyes.

He's already planning that tailgate for his Buckeye buds when they invade Byrd Stadium in 2014!!

(64,933 posts)Sorry about that, TZ!
The sports radio guys here in the DC area figure that Maryland will be getting creamed for the next few years. They even think they are just going to take the Big Ten money and horde it.

(9,002 posts)...but we'll see in 10 years if Delaney was right. The only question is, who are the final two to complete the Big Ten?!?

(64,933 posts)I think the 16 team conference is going fail long term. Each team will have seven games in division and one out of division and then four non-conference. There are a lot of long term games that will rarely now happen. It means Ohio State will only get to kick Iowa's a** once every eight years!
16 teams works for basketball and baseball, but I don't see it working well for football.

(9,002 posts)These people who bemoan the loss of rivalries are full of shit. Been disappearing for a long time. If it takes us to a true playoff count me in!
madinmaryland
(64,933 posts)sort of playoff scheme. With six conferences you could have an eight team playoff with the six conference winners and two at-large wild card teams. It's not rocket science.
Sorry, but rivalries are what makes college football so great. Can you imagine not having an Ohio State - Michigan game every year?

(9,002 posts)...the fuckin' ACC started this recent shit by adding BC, Miami and FSU back in what, 2003? Now that it's happening to your ass it ain't so fun. The hypocrisy here is truly laughable.

(42,998 posts)at Maryland because MD was one of the founding schools of the ACC. I'm not sure what the Big 10 gets out of this to be honest. But it sounds like the Big 10 approached MD, not other way around.

(29,322 posts)I would want them to play Ohio St (provided they win the rest of their games). I wouldn't want any doubts as to who the best team in the nation is.
I hate Ohio State more than any team except for BYU & Arizona but I'm rooting for them to win the AP National Championship which is doubtful as they're struggling to get deserving votes as it is.

(4,447 posts)You'd know that your team was going to get turned inside out by the SEC champ, so it really doesn't matter. And as for Ohio State, the tattoos they should have gotten were "SEC's Postseason Bitch."

(7,099 posts)Yeah, wins are wins I know. But the way they've sputtered over the line so many times in a conference as bad as the Big Ten is this year it looks more like fortune than dominance.
