+++ NFL Picks / Week 14 +++

With the playoffs heating up I'd like to add one additional game this week -- Washington, Pittsburgh, Indy, Chicago, Cincy, Dallas, Giants and Green Bay all facing must-win games. Hope that's okay with everyone.

Weeks 14 and 15 are the last weeks available to take byes. I think the last two weeks -- 16 and 17 -- should be mandatory so no one can sit on a lead. BTW, for week 16 and 17 I think we'll stick with the regular schedule. Picks will be posted Thursday morning (Dec 20 and Dec 27) and due by Sunday kick-off. If you're going to be gone during the last two weeks let me know and we'll work something out.

Fun week. Good luck.

Favorite / Spread / Underdog (Home team in CAPS)

WASHINGTON / 2.5 / Baltimore
PITTSBURGH / 6.5 / San Diego
INDIANAPOLIS / 5.5 / Tennessee
Chicago / 3 / MINNESOTA
Atlanta / 3.5 / CAROLINA
CINCINNATI / 3 / Dallas
NY GIANTS / 5 / New Orleans
GREEN BAY / 7 / Detroit
NEW ENGLAND / 3.5 / Houston

If it were at Houston, I'd go with the Texans...basically 3.5 spread is an admission they're ridiculously evenly matched.

18. My strategy of selecting the Carolina/Atlanta game worked out perfectly
Sun Dec 9, 2012, 04:54 PM
Dec 2012

I foresaw that they would be a heavy favorite here --- http://fifthdown.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/12/06/week-14-n-f-l-game-probabilities-the-sanchez-mistake/ and that most people here would pick Atlanta. Only me & Rocka picked Carolina.

The reason why they're favorites there is Brian Burke weighs most heavily net/ypa followed by defensive net/ypa. Both teams don't have an impressive pass D but Cam Newton is the league leader in ypa. It is funny listening to the announcers talk about the long odds against them when they, mathematically (rather than Vegas odds which can be affected by perception), they had a 62% chance of winning.

20. I nearly pick Arizona/Seattle
Sun Dec 9, 2012, 07:54 PM
Dec 2012

and then I asked myself, "Do I want a loss?".

The score is shocking mainly because Arizona has one of the best defenses in the league, but they also have the worst offense in the league going up against one of the best defenses. 4 interceptions, 4 fumbles lost

RagAss, with a record of 5-3

Four were tied at 4-4.

There was one tie, which we've been playing as neither a win or a loss.

Abysmal week for the group. But we'll get 'em next time. See you Thursday.

24. We all made the same mistakes
Tue Dec 11, 2012, 03:29 PM
Dec 2012

Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Atlanta, and to some extent Houston.

RagAss correctly got the major ones San Diego, Tennessee, Dallas, and also New England.

Just to show tough of a week it was collectively, 3 got 1-7 records. The one week we have an extra game, we have a push. It would be interesting to see what that would have done w/ all the 4-4 members.
