Cowboys tackle arrested after fatal crash

(CNN) -- Dallas Cowboys nose tackle Josh Brent was arrested Saturday on suspicion of intoxication manslaughter after his Mercedes flipped, leaving teammate Jerry Brown Jr. dead, police in Irving, Texas, said.

Brent's car was allegedly traveling at a high speed when it hit a curb, flipped and caught fire, according to Irving police, who said officers on the scene "believed alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash."

The car traveled about 900 feet after hitting the curb, said police spokesman John Argumaniz.

When officers came upon the scene, Brent was dragging Brown, 25, from the car, officials told reporters.

The death of Brown and arrest of Brent brings back memories of former Cowboys cornerback Dwayne Goodrich, who was sentenced to 12 1/2 years in prison for the hit-and-run deaths of two good Samaritan in 2003. Goodrich was driving his BMW at a high rate of speed when he ran over the men in January of that year. Joseph Wood and Demont Matthews had pulled over on Interstate 35E near Walnut Lane to try and rescue a driver from a burning car. Shuki Josef was badly injured.

Goodrich did not stop but was arrested the next day. In 2006, a Dallas County jury ordered him to pay more than $6 million in civil damages. Goodrich was released on parole in October 2011.

He showed unusual class by posting tragic news about his own team.

The result was, well, predictable.

I wonder if Whitlock and Costas are going to give us all a lecture about alcohol now?

So, I don't post there a whole lot. In fact, I can't remember the last time I did. So, I don't exactly meet the requirements needed for you to infer I'm a representative of the gungeon.

However, I do believe in the RKBA..and if that makes me a gungeoneer and a bad guy in your mind, so be it..

because so far you've chastised El Supremo for "passing judgement" (sounds like a hard nosed laxative) and me for providing "commentary" you don't approve of...this is a discussion board isn't it?

Too bad you can't just write some sort of obituary and shut down the comments, huh?

I can only assume he was so drunk he had no common sense about this. RIP Jerry Brown. Sucks.
